Have been long time Glock fan, own two 23's, a 17, a 30 a 22 and a 27, can you tell I like .40 so when I saw a new M40 I had to buy it, this one must be a newer one, thought they had a mechanical safety switch, now where can I get some standard capacity mags.

    Welcome to the Club;e

you now run a very high risk of selling off your glocks to buy more steyrs (M40, M40A, S40 and the 9mm and .357 sig but you don't seem to be in danger there)

did you get the M40 or the M40A?
easiest way to tell is is the grip area texturized. Sounds like the new A but none of us has laid hands on one yet. If the A who did you buy from, and there should've been an option for with or without safety on the new models.

mags are the same either way. Check CDNN to see if they've gotten more in (ran out either the 13th or 14th).

Otherwise USASteyr is dealing with some paperwork since they import them before they can release their LEO marked mags (since they are the actual importer they have to jump through more hoops than a normal distrubter).

It is customary to post us some gun porn and a range report with your new steyr if you could please;f

It must be the new one, the grip area is texturized, bought from a small shop out of Lubbock, TX paid 425 + tax, thought it was a good deal. Took it out just to function test it with 165 grain cheap American eagle Ball and 165 grain Winchester "Type T" hollow point, bullet went where I wanted it to, fed and extracted fine, checked out CDNN, damn double the price for 2 more rounds on mags, I guess i'll wait for the prices to drop, hopefully, you know what they say, it's all just noise after the first 3 :)

    Way to go DriBak

You managed to join the club and be the first, I think, with one of the new versions.

You must give us a range report that is more extensive, maybe compare and contrast againt with G22.

I feel like the kid with the first green machine when everyone else had big wheels, I'm showing my age here, didn't know they were that new, so this "new" MA140 is just coming out? cool, while I'm showing off pics, here is my favorite piece of "steel"

I really want to get the new version (re-vision?) hehehe...

Looks sweet, and the Steyr being designed for the .40 is really beefy; recently I was comparing the chamber of it with other .40's and the Steyr just looks thick.

It's my next to get... just hope they make a run for us up here in Canada (5" barrels) :(

    ugh!

    P.S. I had a green machine too! :)

I wasn't one that was going to run right out get one of the new models, but seeing yours is making me have second thoughts. I need a .357 sig don't I.

I never had a green machine, but the kid next door did. I could out maneuver him on my big wheels and it ate him up.;N

    :)

It is sort of ironic that you just ended up with one, I'm glad your happy with it. BTW, I like your collection of die cast cars, and the little Mexican guy is a hoot.

Knowing that you don't have an older one to compare it to, but still wanting to fish for information...what's your impression of the new Steyr's fit across in the beavertail area, for lack of a better term. I have problems with that area being a bit too wide for my hand on the older version--hit my rearmost thumb joint. I'm in between a large and medium glove size.

I don't want to order one through my dealer, just to tell him it doesn't fit me.

    TIA.

Congrats on the purchase. Safe and happy shooting.

pwharve, funny you made that comment, the Steyr does rub my shooting hand "thumb joint" at the beaver tail a little, definitely more than the glock, the other thing I noticed different versus Glock is when I instinctively pick up the pistol and "point" it the barrel points a little higher thsn if I just grabbed a Glock and pointed it, I don't know some kind of muscle memory or something the grip angle is a little bit different, and I have been a straight up Glock only guy for many years, it's still a great gun and my family of Glocks will become jealous as this will be my carry piece, even over the Glock 27

That is because of the difference in grip angles between the two pistols. If you've been shooting a Glock for a long time then indeed you have trained your body to accomodate the Glock.

Of course different bodies have different fits in general. Steyr's felt and pointed better for me than several other pistols. Thankfully we live in a world of choice! Now if only I could find a shotgun that shouldered and pointed naturally!

cool pics, those are first one i see of new steyrs , but to be honest , i dont like the looks of the new steyr. the front end is to boxy to me, but thats just opinion, the front looks unfinished like a brick, no doubt ti shots well, the new look will have to grow on me .

see had his steyr less than a week probably and is stopping carrying his glock;z ;z ;z

just sell the glocks now so you can buy an original M40 S40 and m40a w/ safety before...
    a) original M's & S's become hard to find and...
    b) no will buy glocks anymore because they all want Steyrs that they don't have to modify the heck out of;f ;f

(man glock must be kicking themselves for turning down this design and letting Bubbits take it to Steyr);Q

P.S. go ahead and shoot lead semiwad cutters in reloaded .40 the M won't foul or KB.
