im looking for the cheapest reasonably good way to get a light on a rifle..

and the first one to say duct tape owes me their casino dollars,

im guessing a good option would be a surefire G2, possibly with malkof drop in led, along with a front sight base mount with a taped pressure switch on the handguard,

oh and its for an ar with fixed front sight

A easy way is to install a AR front sight rail mount.
RedDawn bought one at the last gun show and it works great. He put a Streamlight TLR-1 light on it. No switch cord necessary. The light switch can easily be reached with the left hand.
I'm going to pick up one at the next gun show and try it out.

Sir, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Really, there are plenty of cheap barrel flashlight mounts for rifles. Google, use it.

    Flat Top AR15?

If so get a tri rail riser mount with the 3 rails on it, get a Scorpion or G2 light with a 1" body and a 1" scope ring to attach to one of the side rails on the riser mount.

Man that's a good idea. I never thought about putting a scope in front of an Aimpoint.
