I received my census form last week and sat down to fill it out. I decided to answer everything except my phone number and name. I thought they do not need to know those two things to appropriately distribute government funding. Well to my surprise today I got an anonymous call on my cell phone with an automated message reminding me to fill out my census form. I guess they already have the information I did not want them to have.
Is it just possible they are using public records to contact as many people as possible? I heard last night from Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke that for every one percent the government can raise the the response rate they save 85,000,000 dollars in trying to get an accurate count. That's also the reason they send out the "you're going to get a census letter" letter.
Since it was a recording you could have responded any way you chose to do so. Including just hanging up.
