Anyone know how long it is 'actually' taking people to get their CCW permits these days after fingerprints have been completed by county sheriff department? I know there is a mad rush right now to get them too.

I was told around 56 days... up to a 104 days?

I live in Union County in NC

Depends on the county. They're required to issue within 90 days of the application. Some counties -- like Guilford -- take all of that time. Less populated counties might take 45 to 60.

90 days in SC and if I remember correctly, if they don't approve it on day 90 then it's automatically issued. My Dad and I are almost to day 30 so we still have a bit of time to go. Ugh...

Durham County, not a day under 90.

Sorry....can't tell you what times for your county.

Four years ago, I waited 13 calendar days in Wake County.

My wife just had to wait 12.

Wow, times sure sound like they've changed.
Be happy you aren't in Guilford County.
Guilford is a 90 day waiting period minimum. There is a month wait to even get an appointment with the sheriff to complete your application.
There were at least 40-50 people in my ccw class to boot and that was just one of many days that the class was offered and every class every week is filled.
Sounds like if you DON'T carry a pistol in NC, you are in the minority.
    :wow:

I am also in Union County NC. I applied 11/5, and am still waiting. They guy who did my prints told me up to 90 days but often sooner, pretty vague. How long have you been waiting?

I was about day 80 for me in SC.
I don't remember exactly but it was almost two weeks early.
I remember doing the happy dance and going to Wal-Mart for ammo and Nachos.

I applied 2 weeks ago. He told me the same thing. Said to call around the 8th week to check if it is there.
Are you doing a pick-up or mail direct?

Can't remember the exact time in a county in Western NC...DO know I just walked in to do the paperwork, no appointment needed.

I think the girl at the desk told me it'd be two weeks, so I was freaking out when I hadn't heard anything after three. "Girls at the desk" aren't the most reliable source of estimates I guess. ;) It came in about...6 weeks, give or take, I think.

I hope that is the case with me. I turned mine in 12/16, so 3 to 4 weeks will be mid Jan, not too bad.

I filled out paperwork for a pistol permit at the same time, and they told me 1/5, whereas my last ones were in in under a week.

Are they good about calling you as soon as they come into the Sheriff's office?
Or do they 'sit' on them for a bit?

They tell you to call for the pistol permit, but they call you for the CCW, and they will call you the day it comes in in wake county. That differs for each county though.

Don't hold your breath! I am OVER 90 days, called and was told that SLED is moving in order to save money so no permits have been worked on for the last few days/weeks and will not be for a few weeks. The SLED agent actually told me they do not have the money to set up the phone system/computer system and they are waiting to allocate some!

    Good Luck!

That's the church version of what I said. Call Monday (if you can) and see if you get the same story, the woman I spoke to was very nice and explained the whole thing in great detail. It did not make me any happier though. She to call again in January and see what the status of the system is.

Hate to be the one to bring the bad news though and I can only imagine the bottleneck now!
