vs in a carry purse. I have a very nice Coronado Leather Alpine Classic. It is a great purse - but I do worry about carrying in a purse. The problem I have, quite frankly, is that I am fat. Now I know a lot of women say "I'm fat" when they're 10 pounds overweight. But I am a whole person overweight. I carry a lot of abdominal fat and my hips should rightly wear a "wide load" sign. Unfortunately I have a comparatively "small" waist. So any stongside IWB holsters will flare out on my hips causing the barrel end of the gun to stick out and the butt end of the gun to dig straight into my ribs. I want to be safe - but not at the cost of a) being in pain and b) being "made" as people can see the barrel end of my gun poking through my clothing. I've considered the "Smart Carry". The problem there is that my pants are loose enough when I sit down, but they get quite tight across the abdomen when I sit - I fear the gun there will simply print through my clothing - or that I simply won't have room for it. I also wear full length dresses fairly often (mostly because they don't have waist bands that dig into my all-too-ample flesh. I am working on loosing the weight - but this project could, realistically take a couple of years and I don't think anything will get rid of my wide hips and narrow-er waist as this has been an issues since puberty (even when I was very thin). Any suggestions? It is possible to carry a IWB holster for cross draw so that I could wear it to the front of my weakside hip to avoid the tip-out issue? It would also avoid the butt-under-the-last-rib issue. Though I fear that until I loose some weight I may well have to settle for the less-than-perfect purse carry.
