My 637 has been sleeping in the safe and I'd like to carry it full time again over the winter months. I've carried a variety of snubs over the years in various holsters. Pocket, belt, IWB, those clips that were all the rage in the 90's. Tried it all.

I haves some cash laid aside for a holster. So what should I be looking at? Open to ideas.

I carry my 642 in a Stoner Leather pocket holster, the side that faces out is square, if it prints at all, it looks like a wallet when it's in my pocket.

I can't stand a snubbie near my waist line I carry inside the waist band the cylinder to me is a pita
When I carry a snubbie for back up I have an old pair of boots with a holster sewn in at the top works great
A Glock always in my waist band !

I use these 4 depending upon situation:

    Don Hume JIT slide holster.

    Desantis Nemesis pocket holster:

An IWB holster similar to this one (can't remember the brand right now):
And a Galco ankle holster as a last resort:

The JIT works probably 85-90% of the time with an untucked shirt. The others pick up the slack and the ankle holster is a last resort (usually tucked shirt and tie occasions).

I carry an M&P compact IWB when I can. The S&W 642 takes it's place in one of these 4 when I need something smaller.

I've tried a pretty wide variety of carry methods for my various snubs over the years. OWB (leather and plastic paddles, leather or synthetic belt slide), IWB (clipped soft leather, looped hard leather, metal clip, bunched rubber bands around grip), pocket holster carry (leather, synthetic, etc). I didn't care for the original Hip Grip, as I felt the large outer "grip" hook tip could catch on things and be lifted. That might be resolved by hooking the grip clip over the jeans but underneath a belt. Some folks liked it, though, and the idea has seemed to stick around.

I also briefly tried this Pachmayr gadget from many years ago. The snub is attached inside it by it becoming the grip stocks. It required a roomy vest cargo pocket. Yep, it also carried 5 extra "loose" rounds on the open cylinder side, which popped out of it by pressing on the bullet nose, like the popular Ammo Wallet of the time. (I only kept it for oddity value, and I stashed it away and forgot about it for many years.)

Nowadays I prefer a soft pocket holster, but sometimes still use my simple leather belt slide or a paddle (cover garments).

It didn't stick around on the market for long, as I recall. I was in my "gadget" phase back then (early 30's), and was typically wearing a Hollofil vest with large cargo pockets. Wish I still had the vest, but it eventually wore out in spots.

Front pocket with Uncle Mike's size 4 pocket holster. Costs only $11 or so and gives you minimum bulk in the pocket.

Size 3 works, but 4 is better.

It was a handy thing when I used to keep my 649 Bodyguard in my RH outer rain coat pocket when working my plainclothes assignment. I didn't need to sweep back by coat to reach for my primary belt gun in close situations, as my 649 was easily in my hand, concealed from view in my generous pocket, with nobody the wiser.

The snubbie I carry is a 2 1/2" S&W 66-5. I carry it in a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster. It is a VERY comfortable OWB rig when attached to Simply Rugged's 2 3/4" belt.

I recently bought a S&W 642. Not sure how I will carry it or use as a BUG. Ankle? Belly band? Or just pocket it?

My primary is a 649, which is carried mostly in the pocket, but sometimes in a shoulder rig (glaco classic lite)
