Carry piece decision

Hey all, I currently carry a Glock 19, recently bought a Shield Plus, both great guns, both have over a thousand rounds through them without a single malfunction, I shoot both of them about the same, but I am having trouble picking a dedicated carry piece, any advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Only you can make that decision. There are pros and cons to each gun. Besides, unless you are limited to only one on your permit, I'd carry each one for a while and see which one suits your needs more.

There’s a thing called ‘rotation’, it’s ok to vary things.

The great part is that it is impossible to make a bad choice between those two.

How you carry could influence your decision.

Unload both guns. Put them in a holster, and wear it like you normally would. Close your eyes, draw as fast as you can and point in your natural stance. Now open your eyes, which one has the sights correctly on target?
Repeat with only one hand , which one is pointing correctly?

You ever need it, odds are you won’t have time to adjust your grip and get it perfect. Choose the one that naturally points for you.

These are the two guns that I rotate between. At the moment I carry the 19 a bit more because I shoot it better and that's because I've shot it more. I carry what will give me the best chance of putting rounds on target if that situation comes up.

At some point I will have that comfort with the Shield + and will carry that more often because it is easier to carry.
Same guns here but I carry the Plus usually when working on like mowing or such. Glock or my Dagger fother times where a larger gun won't be in the way or on our security team Sundays and Wed. Just some examples. They both hold the same amount.
I bought a shield plus and carry it everywhere. I also would like a G19. You literally can't go wrong with any of these choices.

Here is my 2 cents worth.
Find a course of fire or two, or a couple of drills. Both need to include scores and times. Try to include one handed strong and weak hand drills and some reload drills too. Shoot the CoF and/or drills with both guns, record your scores and times.

Then the next time you head to the range, do the same, but shoot the guns in different order. Again, record the scores and times.

Then do it a third time. Maybe even a fourth time and fifth time.

This should give you a clear determination on which of the guns you shoot the best. Now if, your goal is not to necessarily carry the gun that you shoot the best but the gun that is most comfortable or most concealable... well then, it doesn't really matter.

I bet - that the 19 will come out on top, more often than not. I could be wrong (I've been before) but doubt it.

Good luck on your choice (both are good guns).

I have quite a few 9mm. Pistols. My main carry is my Glock 19. You have to decide which 1 feels the best for you.
I think I'm trying to justify the Shield Plus, maybe, because it's my recent aquistion, the latest and greatest, but sometimes when my arthritic wrists act up, I can't rack that slide, but never have that problem with my Glock.
The basic question which should prevail in assisting you with the decision is this;

Which pistol provides you with the most accurate hits in the shortest times?

Shot placement is king in a lethal encounter. Orive8 made good, if complex suggestions. Have a good, fair, and impartial shoot off with both candidates. Let the results determine your course of action.

Good luck with your decision.

I'll be interested to see which you decide on. I am about to be trying to make the same decision for myself. I have the Plus and love it, it handle and shoots so well. But, when I carry AIWB the grip wants to lean forward and print more than I like, even with my KORE Essentials gunbelt. I'm thinking the new G19's longer barrel may prevent this to a greater extent. Hope to finally get to the range with it tomorrow.

I’d pick the Glock 19 because I love mine!

My $0.⁰². I'd go with the Shield Plus. Basically they both do the same thing but the Shield is a bit smaller than the 19 and conceals better. I consider that a huge plus in warmer weather.
Not to make things more difficult but as a third option I'd consider a S&W M&P compact 3.6 inch barrel.

Agreed, though there is a second part of the calculus in that if the smaller gun shoots nearly as well and is more in comfort or concealment that you’ll carry it more consistently, then consider that.

For example, in practical drills (Bill, FAST, Devil, etc) the Glock 19 performs better for me than the 365xl, but only by a tiny amount (in terms of time) and conceals much easier and more comfortably, so there’s a small trade off that’s worth it for me in comfort.

In reality, if you are like most of us, you’ll bounce around between guns for some time till you find “the one”. Or, if you’re like many of us you’ll never fully settle on “the one” and occasionally try something new or different . Just make sure to practice with what you carry.

Dry fire and dedicated CCW range time are good habits to get into.

Like, ... this is a real problem?

I'd get some good holsters for both pistols.
