For those that carry guns with 8rd mags one in the pipe for 9.

How many extra mags do you carry or don't you?

I carry with the +1 in the pipe. I always carry at least 2 reloads with my 1911.

I carry a minimum of 1, maximum of 2 spare magazines...no matter what the handgun's capacity is.

My standard carry piece is a 7rd Kahr. I live in central FL where it is normally hot and humid so a BUG is not an option most of the time because I'm usually wearing shorts and a light shirt and my smaller frame doesn't lend itself to concealing multiple guns around my mid section. With that said, a second mag/reload is the absolute minimum.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen magazines inadvertently/prematurely ejected. It usually happens when I have new shooters with big hands and small guns...new shooters are often over stressed and nervous when they begin their training. Throw in a not so perfect grip, the pressure of a timed drill and bingo! It's not too much of a stretch to assume that even seasoned shooters can fall victim to this scenario in a real world instantaneous burst of violence.

There are several good reasons to carry extra reloads but I believe the above scenario has been understated in the training community. Just my 2 cents...

My EDC is a 6+1 Glock 39, with a 7 round magazine on the offside.

Frankly, the only reason I have the 7 round mag is because I hadn't tried the GAP Floorplates before I bought the Pearce Extension.

I don't carry a spare mag for the extra ammo: I carry it in case my gun jams. A different magazine cures a lot of problems.

I always have two mags on me, primarily in case a mag goes bad.

Two is one. One is none.

But as it's often said, "you'll run out of time before you run out of ammo."

    ^^^^ This.

I CCW a G19 but always carry a spare mag. Not because I'm worried about running out of ammo, but because in case the gun mag goes bad.

Lots of comments about carrying a spare in case of mag malfunction here. It is nice to see that everyone is so well informed that they do not need more rounds, only a spare mag for malfunctions. Me, I also carry a gun with 17 rounds on board and one or 2 extra mags... for a malfunction of course haha and I am not ashamed to admit also for the extra ammo,

Off duty, at least one spare. At work in plain clothes, minimum of 2 spares on me and several in my car.

I often carry a P7 with one spare magazine. In the winter a second magazine usually goes in my coat pocket.

I think I'll order a dual paddle style magazine holder from Comp-tac.

    Regards,
    Happyguy :)

It's always best to have a little ammo left over for the ride home.

    I have a number of pistols that use 6, 7 & 8-rd magazines.

I typically carry 1-2 spare magazines, the same as when I carry pistols that use higher capacity magazines.

I don't expect to need additional ammunition or to encounter a magazine-related malfunction, but carrying at least 1 spare magazine better prepares me for both situations.

2 and I'm considering 3 (one in pistol) - I live in the city where multiple BG encounters is a potential reality but the possibility of mag failure is motivation #2. Kahr CW9
