No matter what hollow-point or exotic ammo you carry, IMHO, one should carry at least a mag of FMJ. Comes in handy.

And equally important, practice with your carry ammo regularly so you are confident regarding its point of impact, recoil, and muzzle flash.

Sage advice, oh wise one.

Nothing rattles the nerves like that first round of "serious" ammo after you've grown accustomed to the anemic fodder they make you buy and use at your local range. Sort of like practicing your catching with a tennis ball and then getting drilled for the first time with a real baseball in a game. OUCH! No two loadings are going to behave the same. Try 'em all, then go with the one that works best for your intended/anticipated use(s).

FWIW, I used to carry HydraShocks, then Golden Sabers, then Rangers, then Cor-Bons. . . . Now I carry Gold Dots in the gun, one spare magazine of the same and another two magazines with FMJ Federal Classic. Works for me.

(Really, try them all. It gives you an excuse to buy lots of ammo and spend way too many hours at the range. :woohoo: )

    Good luck.

The terminal performance of most modern jacketed hollow points in a given caliber and weight are very similar. So, I find what functions 100% in my gun. Then, if there is more than one choice from function testing, I go with the most accurate.

In my case, it's Speer Gold Dots (124gr 9mm and 230gr .45ACP). I use either the Speer factory load, or the equivalent Georgia Arms load using the same bullets.
