CCI have always been a favorite. I used to carry Stingers, but I'm liking the the Velocitor 40 grain.
Anyone have an opinion of this, or any other type of round?
This gun will be self-defense round

I'm a fan of CCI .22 ammo, mostly because it tends to be reliable in my guns. I don't know offhand how a Velocitor would compare with a Stinger or, say, a Mini Mag in terms of self defense against perps.

Though I carry something much larger than a .22 caliber for concealed carry and self defense in general, I keep a Taurus PT-22 in the trunk of one of my vehicles with 200 rounds of CCI Mini Mag hollow points as sort of a bug-out secondary gun for wherever I might be if the SHTF. The gun is pretty reliable with this round.

Bottom line, reliability is (in my opinion) the most important factor. CCI seems to be one of those reliable .22 brands, but testing it in your gun is the key.

In a 5" revolver Velocitors are no faster than Mini Mags (~1,000 fps for both). With the Beretta's tiny barrel the slow powder in the Velocitors won't get you very good velocity.
I might give Mini Mags a try, but I would stick with Stingers until I saw some real evidence that something else performs better in short barrels.
Stick with CCI, their priming seems to be the most reliable of any brand.

I have a bother who has a Beretta 21. We tried several types of ammo after he bought the little gun. CCI Stringes worked that best as far as function. I don't think you can get any better.
