    Updated

Thread title is no longer relevant, I'm no longer considering a midlength, now just deciding on a FF handguard. Some of the posts below may no longer make sense now that I've edited this post, lol.

    10" Midwest (MI) SS10 handguard

This is a fairly new handguard by MI and not very common yet, judging by the number of pics I have seen here (none), but can anyone tell me if it includes any method of anti-rotation of the barrel nut once installed? I don't see any.

Update: checked with MI and they say yes.

First question, do you currently have a carbine gas system or mid-length system? Second question, do you realize that with that particular handguard, you will need to remove the barrel? I recommend MI's 2-pc. free float handguards if you do not want to remove the barrel.

Yeah I think the 2-pc will be my best option. Instead of a new barrel I'm just going to get a complete mid upper for a new build, what the hell. I don't want to put too much into this particular carbine since it's not a high-end AR to begin with, if that makes sense.

You're stuck with a carbine gas system unless you replace the barrel with a midlength.

You can not change the position of the gas block, carbine is carbine, middy is a middy.
What your are suggesting is just not possible with out a new barrel.

You mean he can't just plug up the old port with a little JB weld, drill a new one w/ a good cordless drill, and use a BFH to install the new GB???

    j/k ;)

+1, you need a new barrel to go middy.

If you really want an extended rail though you can just file down the FSB and put a rail on top of it, it should work just fine. Knock off the "sight" part and voila! A perfect gas block!

With the free float rail/tube the OP wants to use, FSB needs to be removed and barrel nut changed.

I don't know much about MI handguards (or any railed handguards really). Personally though I'd just get the bolt on type and forget all the armorer stuff.

If you have a 16" barrel and are just adding the 10" free float you have listed the right parts, however you can use your existing gas tube. It will be a bit of work and I highly suggest you get/borrow a ACTION BLOCK.

I removed the FSB and added a YHM low profile gas block and the LaRue 10 inch free float. Im assuming this is the look you are going for.
