If you were going to spend a lot of time on the road drining constantly and wanted a larger gun in the car, which would you rather have, a .45 or a 10mm (a G21 or G20 specifically)?

Common sense tells me the 10mm, but I want to see what others think too.

** Please stick to these two calibers and not others please (as these are the two guns I already have and do NOT want to swap them out for other calibers) - thanks **

    10mm.
    hands down.
will do whatever a .45 will, and then some.

With the limitations you placed on replies, I'll just have to say....neither.

I have an inexpensive but reliable Bersa 45 serving that duty.

Not too sure of your objectives but if terminal effect is important then 10mm has greatest potential. Has the better potential to penetrate sheet metal. But more recoil, fewer shops with ammo. Just like any other compromise.

    Glock 31 .357 Sig :)

I don't know between your two choices. The 10mm is a whole different level of performance with full power ammo. However, the .45 ACP has stood the test of time. It is a hard decision for sure

10mm -- Ammunition weight is more varied and can be tweaked to your anticipated need.

G21. IF this is the only gun in your car and you absolutely need more ammo, .45 is easier to find.

depends on your ability to handle recoil. If both are equal to you, then 10mm for sure. The G20 is a great choice if you want power. But you plan on just leaving it in the car and not carrying? I know more than one guy who had that idea (or simply buying for home defense) at the beginning and then later decided to carry and later bought a less bulky gun to carry.

Neither would be my top choice, but between those two I would go with the .45. And both are adequate for 99% of the situations you may encounter.

Since I believe it to be pure folly to consider there being a distinction between what I carry while in a vehicle and what I carry while walking around at the grocery store or while cutting the grass in my yard, etc., I'm afraid I'll be of no help to you other than suggesting, caliber selection aside, that you use whatever firearm you feel you're the most proficient with. And you're the only one who can truthfully and accurately answer that question...

I have all the common calibers.
If the choice has to be the 45 or 10, I'd probably leave the 10 in the vehicles.

What I have is a 357 in the truck,

and two Glocks in the car. A G19 and G26 and rifles and whatever I'm carrying.
