At least it happened on shore, may of been a different story had he been way out. Best wishes for a quick recovery.

i thought he was the guy that drinks like red bulls and coffee all day long, and had been to the doctor several times in the last few seasons. i saw this coming... i hope he makes a full recovery. At least he was docked when this happened as opposed to being days away at sea.

Thats a bummer. He suffered blood clots in his lungs a couple seasons ago, he was lucky to live then and obviously didn't change his habits. Too bad, I like the guy. Hope he recovers...............

Really? He chain smoked and sounded like an espresso machine when he laughed... I thought it was a little obvious.

    I hope he recovers.

I did. Either that or a heart attack. He chain smokes the whole time in the wheel-house and downs red bulls at about a case a day.
Me and my girl were watching when he went back out as captain after the lung thing and told each other the job would kill him while they were filming.

Wonder if it'll be on the show.

Last night Capt. Phil underwent surgery. Both of his sons, Josh and Jake were at his side. Josh flew in from St. Paul to join his brother. It may be some time before we know anything substantial about Phil’s condition.

Thank you to everyone who has sent good wishes and prayers for Phil, his family and the Cornelia Marie crew.

An old family friend of the F/V Cornelia Marie, Derek Ray flew to St. Paul to take on the role of relief skipper for the rest of the Opilio season.

First, Thoughts and prayers for Captain Phil, I hope he pulls through OK..

Second.. How in the world could you not see that coming?(or was that sarcasm?) The guy smokes like a freight train, the constant stress, etc.. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.

Sarcasm  I should have been more clear on that.

The man is a wreck, and certainly didn't learn anything from the blood clot episode. I think Sig is heading in the same direction.

Yah, I like Sig too, and the stress has visibly aged him in the last three seasons since I started watching the show.

He could easily go down Phil's path... he takes his work dead serious...

Blood clots from his legs moved to his lungs. Sitting in the Captains chair for hours on end is not good for the lower leg circulation.

Yep... Kinda figured this would happen sooner or later. He smokes about a pack a minute, drinks gallons of red bull every day, and stays up for weeks at a time.. He's lucky if he makes it out ok.. Reckon he's gonna turn the Cornelia Marie over to the kids?
