I can receive E-mail, but can't send it. He has cable modem access. Thunderbird will not connect from my laptop.

    Any suggestions??

Sounds like you use a different ISP, if so you don't have access to your network except from home. Just about all ISP's have a web site where you can access your e-mail when traveling.

I wondered about that. I can send going to the webmail site, it's just awkward. Thanks

If your ISP has an SSL outgoing mail server that should work regardless of what network you are connected to.
