I turned on the computer the other day, and it appears Internet Explorer has now decided to start resizing images to fit the page...without my permission. I've unchecked the option in IE "Internet Options" so it should not automatically resize images, but it makes no difference, and it seems to be occuring on all pages I visit with images. I have no idea what's causing this and I find it highly annoying. TIA for the recommendations.

Did you exit IE and restart it after making the change?

IE 6, and yes, I did exit the program and restart the app, even though this change didn't supposedly require a restart. Heck, I even restarted the whole computer, no dice.
