My Lab, Lena, who's 7 has a nasty tumor on her right back hock. I noticed it about two weeks ago and it's gotten bigger rapidly. Took her to the Vet yesterday and my worst fears were confirmed- not a cyst, a solid mast cell tumor. The Vet took a sample, microscoped it and said the cells were just multiplying like crazy. Great. She took a sample from the lymph gland that is about 1" from the tumor and it appeared clear. Hopefully it hasn't spread. Mast cells are notoriously aggressive and unpredictable. I'm taking her in on Friday morning for the tumor removal.
Hopefully it'll be a Good Friday!
She's such a great dog and my son's world revolves around her.
Say a prayer if you'd like, we'd sure be appreciative.

If they get it all before metastasizes, there's a very good chance she'll be just fine!

    Prayer sent...

    Great pic! :wavey:

Man...I've been there. Hard to handle when the ones that give you unconditional love go down. We'll say a prayer for ya guys.

Nothing other than a dog, gives unconditional love. Nothing.

Ouch! You really do have my sympathies. I've already lost a prized Pit Bulldog to cancer. The event is really difficult to have to go through. A few months ago we lost our beautiful little Dachshund to congestive heart failure. (He was my constant shadow for almost 10 years!) Man, it still hurts; and, so far, the passage of time hasn't done much to assuage the loss!

I really like that picture of you and Lena. It's obvious to me that you're, both, a dog lover and a good person. I will say a prayer for your companion's well being; (I really will.) but, at the same time, you should be aware that everything happens in its proper time and place in this world. The challenge each of us faces is to be able to accept and try to understand the, 'greater will' that always surrounds us.

Best of luck to the both of you! :)

Prayers sent! Hope she gets over it and well soon. My Dad had to put to sleep my beloved Dachshund "Ula" because some breast tumors she had, 25 years ago. I still miss her.

Well, he's a very good looking young man with an obvious (At least to me) gentle soul. Here's our, 'Deeter'.

Not a day goes by that I don't miss him! :crying:

Thanks, he is the most gentle person I've met. He has a mild form of Autism and I couldn't buy a better son.
Your Deeter looks sweet. I've always had a soft spot for Doxies.

One of my dogs lost her leg in the battle of cancer. She had an aggressive soft tissue sarcoma grow on her knee. Amputation was the only solution to save her. It has been a year and a half and she is still cancer free.

Sorry to hear your dog has cancer, but it does sound somewhat good that they might be able to treat it. Cancer got my Pooh Bear.

Hopefully they cut that crap completely out! We had the same problem with our dog, and they just disappeared.

    Weird no?

    Praying 4 a complete heal

Prayers up. I don't have a big block head lab like her anymore-----Lord she's pretty but a Lab is not an option with me---it is required. I am betting she will be just fine. 'Buddy of mine had the same thing and they got it all and it has not come back. Our current one is a 60 lb runt Chocolate Female who has turned out to be a good hunting partner despite all I have heard about Chocolate Labs. The wife is from Louisiana and the Choco thing is big there. Anyway and again, prayers up.
