You do know the difference between reading and reading aloud, right? HH

Actually, I'm OK with this...assuming they would have arrested any other orater, no matter what drivel they were spouting.

You have the right to say what you want...you don't have the right to an audience.

I agree, I have no problem with this. I would like to think/hope the cop would have the sack to arrest a muslim preaching as well, though who knows if that would happen.

I didn't see any report of him chaining or handcuffing his audience. The government building located 50ft away was not even open for business.

You being LEO (I presume by your avatar) believe this to be the case?

    California Penal Code:
    415. Any of the following persons shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for a period of not more than 90 days, a fine of not more than four hundred dollars ($400), or both such imprisonment and fine:

    (1) Any person who unlawfully fights in a public place or
challenges another person in a public place to fight.

    (2) Any person who maliciously and willfully disturbs another person by loud and unreasonable noise.

    (3) Any person who uses offensive words in a public place which are inherently likely to provoke an immediate violent reaction.

This section might be applicable to someone and their "speech" depending on the circumstances. And for the record, I didn't read the link and am not familiar with the specifics of the case, just making a general observation.

    :dunno:

So...they arrest a guy for reading from the Bible...

But the West borough Trash that screams across from funerals at funeral goers about their dead kids being in Hell is ok?

Would he have been arrested if he were reading from the DMV driver's manual ? Think about it.

And then at the "intimidating" defendant's trial...

Prosecutor: And tell us what happened next Mr. Pansy.

Pansy: I'm standng in line waiting for the DMV to open. Well, then, the guy reading the bible started talking about Jesus and how he was really mad at those banker people for making money in the temple, and then I just got really, really scared. I was so frightened that my bowels started to move, but the building wasn't open for another ten minutes, so that made not having a toilet even scarier. I ran out of diapers the day before, which made having an accident very, very frightening. I was just so scared, that I didn't know what to do, so I just called the police.

Has Westboro ever protested in California? (since that's the CA code, that's the only place it would apply)

They don't have the guts to do it in California. We Californians don't take a shining to their shenanigans.
