What is the procedure to speed up the startup time with WinXP MediaCenter 2005?

I know it depends on what resident software you have, but it seems as if this system has gotten very sluggish at startup. and it doesn't like me doing anything until "Security Center" has loaded and told me that my computer is in danger. That is my cue that all is ready for me to use the machine.

Is there a better way that just walking away from the machine to let it sloowwlly get ready?

edited to add: It takes a full 4 minutes for the system to come up fully. I have 1gb RAM installed. 1.8ghz Turion-64 processor.

    CCleaner
    www.ccleaner.com

Run the Cleaner and the Issues. This will clean up all sorts of crap on your hard drive and fix invalid registry entries.

    Defragment your hard drive.

Check Start->Programs->Startup to see what all is starting up, delete things you don't need.

Run HijackThis and post your log here.

I would also recommend editing your msconfig
    Start – run – MSCONFIG – OK
Click on the startup tab and uncheck unnecessary stuff.
