Can I replace the Glock buffer spring and rod and be IDPA legal? The way I read the rules is I cannot replace the Rod, but I can the Spring.

You can change the spring in any division. You can change the rod to steel in ESP and CDP. You can change the rod to another plastic rod in SSP.

Is there a Plastic one that is aftermarket that would let me change the spring rate?

You can pop the retaining plug out of the end of the stock recoil spring assembly and put an aftermarket spring of a different weight on it and reassemble. Do this with extreme caution. Best to use some device to compress and hold the spring while pushing a wire rod thru the hole in the breech end of the guide rod and popping out the plug. I usually work inside a two gallon clear ziplock bag as even with the spring compressed and not applying pressure on the plug, it still comes out rather forcefully. I have lost more than one of these plugs before "perfecting" the process. Trying to pop the plug out without compressing the spring can get someone "kilt".

Does Glock make a factory guide rod that will fit a G19 that has heavier spring than the stock one ??

the device i use is the gun itself. just lock the slide back. now the plug is exposed and you can pull it off with some pliers.

Not exactly what I asked. Have read the debates - am curious if Glock sells heavier springs/guide rods for the G19/G23.:)

Perfect timing gents I bought a new spring last week and was preparing to replace it when I found this. The old use the gun (Unloaded gun) to compress the spring worked like a charm.
