Can an AK pistol grip handle a sling mount?

I need to put a sling on my Draco AK pistol. Only problem is it doesn't have a rear sling mount anywhere. It's been said many times that tying a loop of paracord/material around the pistol grip, between the receiver and the grip allows for a sling to be attached.

I'm just curious, if I use the sling to stabilize the gun when firing...can the grip/screw take that kind of pressure or will it eventually snap/break?

    Thanks!

Personally, I'd drill a hole in the back of the receiver and install a sling swivel with a locknut. I don't think you will be able to rest your cheek on a sling attached so low on the gun and get good sight alingment.

Good point. I didn't really think about that.

Other than just drilling a hole and attaching the nut/swivel do I need any other trunion type hardware?

    Thanks!

I wouldn't think so. Mine is not a Draco however so I can't say for sure. My Red Jacket pistol came with one installed.

Or, you could just do this if you've got a SAW-style grip:

It even gives added security to whatever you've stashed in the little compartment, since it blocks the trap door from opening on its own.

To the OP's original question, yeah it can take it. The grip takes the brunt of the recoil in an AK pistol anyway. I was leery myself at first, but so far mine is still solid and hasn't budged with the added stress of hanging off the grip like that, slapping about and such. Just use some blue loctite on the grip screw threads and make sure it's nice and tight.

How to mount a sling onto an AK pistol?

Since, this question has come up many times and since the Draco (AK pistol) is one of the fastest selling pistols in CA (it can be easily made CA legal), a few CA owners have created the VM1 sling plate.

I have one on my Draco and I like it.

CA legal Draco with VM1 sling plate installed. (not mine, i too lazy to take pics)
