Right now cannabis may be the only thing keeping Californians under control. If they all came out of the weed fog at one time the politicians would be hanging from lamp post.

The stupidity that comes out of California government is such that I would have been more surprised if you told me they were putting teachers ahead of pot salesmen.

With the mass exodus of citizens and corporations they need to do something to keep revenue up.

Except, cannabis isn't like that for many people. It's not alcohol or benzos, which suppress feelings. In fact, for many people, marijuana makes them question things or think outside of the box. Why do you think it was a classical artist, musician, and counter-culture drug?

You do realize that public schools are a failed system? That it's really just government daycare with socialist indoctrination of children and youth.
I really love how folks like you assume all public schools are failed. "Government daycare with socialist indoctrination" you say? Sure, it's not perfect but it's hardly worth scrapping entirely. Do you even have children because I often find the noisiest ones about this topic don't. I do and my wife is, guess what....a conservative public school teacher. OMG that's unpossible!!! We supplement our kids' public education with our own private education and find that a balance is important.

Right, I'm a former teacher. Our education system is a mess, but there ARE good teachers, and good schools.

Also, most kids are still learning necessary, basic skills, from math and science to reading, writing, and the arts.

Many such people who claim it's all just babysitting and all, are often anti-education or have an axe to grind about their own education.

If they can just put down all schools, especially colleges, they can by proxy attack their own hurt or feelings of insufficiency with education.

Honestly, in the combined 12 years or so of private Montessori school and now public schools (even in a liberal county) we've had very little in the way of a bad experience.

This past year though has left me more disappointed because I have learned just how cowardly some teachers are because they're afraid to go do their jobs and teach kids. What about the rest of the world's professions where folks have had to pull up their Big Boy britches and get on with it? Why are teachers so special? Anyway, my wife is now back in the classroom and couldn't bet happier. My kids are back in classes in person albeit on some weird schedules.

It's funny because I just had a conversation with my oldest last night about how schools and universities are places where people will attempt to brainwash her and explained just how important it is for her to learn to think for herself.

After watching parents try to help their kids learn "virtually", I'll take the failed system of IN SEAT public school as a requirement. Without public education we'd be in even worse shape with a whole generation of kids that can't read, write, do math, etc... And they'd have no choice but to vote for the next candidate promising a handout.

Since teachers in CA aren't wanting to go back to in seat school and governor Newsome isn't going to make them....maybe weed retailers deserve to get the shot first if they want it.

Liberals see California as a model for the rest of the country.... I hope that never happens in my lifetime.

California’s medical marijuana retail workers move to head of vaccine line, ahead of teachers
This is giving priority to about 30,000 retail workers servicing 300,000 patients and customers a day. We need to protect them,’ says a cannabis entrepreneur

Good to hear you haven't had many bad experiences. I didn't until I went to a bad California public high school, the one featured in the movie "Dangerous Minds." Yes, I literally went to that high school.

I also taught in a middle school that would be similar in the sense of low income, gangs, etc. That was very difficult too.

Even as a very strong supporter of education and teachers, I too am disgusted by the teachers unions playing political games with reopening during Covid, and not putting the kids first. I don't think it's mostly individual teachers though. It's the teachers unions that like many other big labor unions have gotten highly politicized. I think their leadership is just playing ball with the powerful.

If everything we are doing is "to save lives", why aren't thos at risk given the vaccine first?

Because it's all BS.

Teachers in my area were prioritized for vaccination to get schools open again. Makes sense. Except now the teachers refuse to return to work until ridiculous demands are met, like every child is vaccinated with full-time nurses in schools. The district is actually hiring “monitors,” so some children can go back to the classroom while being taught by teachers working remotely.

So I guess the bright side of this California decision is that the pot workers will actually go back to work.

LOL the non-union "union" here in NC (we can't have a real teachers' union and that's a good thing) is highly politicized and the current VP is an avowed actual communist piece of ****.
