If that happened, that trial would be a complete circus.

Sheriff’s investigators plan to recommend that prosecutors file a vehicular manslaughter charge against Caitlyn Jenner for her role in a fatal car crash last February, officials said Thursday.

Investigators found that Jenner was driving “unsafe for the prevailing road conditions” when her SUV rear-ended a Lexus, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said.

Jenner was hauling an off-road vehicle on a trailer behind her Cadillac Escalade on Feb. 7 when she steered to avoid cars slowing for a traffic light in front of her on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

Jenner’s SUV rear-ended two cars, pushing the Lexus into oncoming traffic and also hitting a Prius. The Lexus driver, 69-year-old Kim Howe, was killed when her car was struck head-on by a Hummer.

Are accident caused by following too close usually prosecuted as manslaughter? Seems like an overreaching charge for the circumstances.

Not only that, has to be charged as Bruce Jenner because that's what he was when it happened.

So Bruce Jenner has to stand trial.

I could have sworn there were pictures of then Bruce Jenner texting at the same time.

Manslaughter IIRC can get you as little as 3 years. With good behavior it can be a year and a half.

Sorry, but Bruce is still a dude in my book. He shoulda been driving with extra care since he was towing a trailer. If guilty of the charges he may face, I suspect he'll be punished appropriately.

I believe those reports were false.

It seems unusual at least around here to charge someone for vehicular manslaughter when they weren't impaired, on a phone or something along those lines.

In many states, that is exactly what manslaughter is. Your specific(reckless or negligent depending on jurisdiction) actions caused a death, even though you had no intention of causing a death. You did have control over YOU.

They did a kid speeding in his car around here a few years back.

There is a joke in the traffic unit. It's either speeding (too fast for conditions) or following too closely (not enough space to stop in time). Either one will do.

Involuntary manslaughter can be charged in California for a lawful act done in a negligent manner. The following too close is a criminal act so that threshold has already been crossed.

In your experience, do people typically serve any actual time in this type of situation? I'd think deals suspending a sentence with probation and community service would be typical especially if the person isn't a degenerate to begin with. But I really don't know how these types of cases typically play out.

If he was wrong I hope he pays full price. If he didn't, I hope he gets off. They didn't ask me to be on any potential jury pools, so meh. It will be what it will be.
