I would love to hear your thoughts to help me choose. I've read so many mixed reviews on the Lyman. Did they have a motor problem 1-2 years back? But it is reported by many to be very quiet.

Can anyone comment on how quiet Cabellas (made by Berry) is? Cabellas has free shipping on the Lyman for just under $71.00.

I've got the autoflow version of that Lyman. I've been using it 5 years. It's the only tumbler I've used, so I can't compare it to anything. I can say the tub they give you to catch the media as it flows out is way too small and the autoflow feature is problematic (messy) because unless you found something the perfect size and shape, you can't get a catch basin close enough to catch everything that comes out. I still use the autoflow, but I've bought several catch basin replacements trying to find one that works well.

The RCBS rotary media separator seems to be a good match for the Lyman, as it's got similar capacity. I use it to separate out dirt/vegetation/.22lr before tumbling and then again to get the rest of the media out of the brass after tumbling.

I got the big Lyman 2500 autoflo also. The tumbler itself is quiet but the stuff you put in it sure ain't, the noise doesn't come from the tumbler itself. I don't like the autoflo, the spout is too small and it takes a bunch of media to fill up the void below the bowl. I sent to Lyman for a non autoflo bowl.

I had mine for over 2 years without any problems. I have even loaded it up with heavy ceramic tumbling media to wet tumble steel and aluminum parts for deburring and smoothing. It worked rather well and got a workout on those parts. Still runs like new.

Harbor Freight has an 18 pound tumbler that is a beast. I have used Dillon tumblers for many years and I am impressed with the size and capacity of the Harbor Freight unit.

if you search for coupons on the net, you can get this delivered for 135 or less. After reading several reviews I figured I would give it a try. After using it a few weeks I really like it

I have been reloading most of the common pistol rounds for 20 years. My original "generic" tumbler finally gave out and I purchased a new Cabela's model 400 for around $50 about 3 months ago. I only have about 20-25 hours on it so far, but I am definitely impressed. It is very quiet, has good agitation, and the capacity is better than many I looked at for twice the price. I typically process about 500-600 9mm's at a time.

I just don't think you will do better for the money and probably not do better even spending a lot more money.

Good Luck

Kwesi,

The Cabel's 400 tumbler is a fine unit, should give you many years of service.

Quite a few years ago I purchased a Lyman 1200 PRO tumbler. It is a bit smaller that the 400 but has served me well thus far.

I don't know about all tumblers but most seem to work quieter and more efficiently when you keep the number of casings lower that what they claim this the max it will clean. That has been my experience and several other friends of mine who have different tumblers as well.

Have fun
