The C-141 is officially retired. The Starlifter made it's last flight this morning. It flew from Wright-Patterson's main base to area B and landed at 0930 this morning( Sat 6 May)to be delivered to the Air Force Museum. The aircraft was tail number 60177. It was also known as the "Hanoi Taxi". It had the honor of airlifting the first load of POW's out of Viet Nam. It truly is the end of an era.

    Another piece of history gone.
I've walked out the door of many a 141. Good bird that did it's job well. Of course, now that we have the C-17, I'd never get back in a 141;).

I spent 12 years as an FE on the Tube of Pain. Good airplane, good times and I flew with exceptional people. :patriot:

I'm still mad about all the European base closures, especially Rhein-Main AB. And I'm really mad about the "last 141." That bird was our lifeline down at the "tip of the sword," at Incirlik.

I am really sad to hear that great aircraft is retired. I really loved flying aboard it.

I cannot imagine what brought this about, since it performed its job very well.

High time airframes and no replacement parts. I liked the plane but the C-17 is a good replacement.

Good ridannce to the tube of pain. I'd rather fly on a c-130 any day.
