Almost a 10 year run with my membership in GT. Lots of great discussion here. Learned a lot, and hope that I've helped some folks along the way. Met some good folks.

This place has been particularly contentious, and has been getting there for a while. It reminds me of a post by Zombie Steve (one of the all-time great ones here) a few years ago when he bailed for the same reason. I prefer to hang out with upbeat people that don't tear into each other over minutiae. Admittedly, the tone of my own voice was not up to my standards recently. I own that. This is not how I like to relate to people.

I'm going to sign out from GT for a while. Hopefully you all carry on the good legacy of this forum. I'll probably be back at some point to see some of you that I'll miss.

    Shoot safely.

Sorry to see you go. :crying:

I think most of us would be lying to say we hadn't contemplated the very same thing for the very same reasons, more than once.

I hope you decide to come back sooner, rather than later.

It's all small stuff. But the small stuff adds up to big stuff.

Hate to see anyone leave for these reasons. As WW said, I've considered the same thing myself. I rarely try to have thoughtful, respectful, disagreement with anyone anymore. It just seems to always go to the wrong place.
I remember when I first started lurking GT. Many more years ago than I care to admit. I distinctly recall finding like minded individuals, in thoughtful, rational, respectful discussions, to be a breath of fresh air.
Maybe it's just the way of the world anymore.
Wishing you well until you come back....but, I understand if you don't.

The internet is a mere reflection of people that you'd under normal everyday circumstances never come into personal contact with. Subjecting oneself to this greater number of people increases the probability that you'll be subjected to more differing views and be engaged in more disagreements, which can lead to frustration and anger.

The key is to not get so absorbed in this or any other website that you become reliant upon it in your daily life, or become too easily offended by it's members.

I often consider these goodbye posts unnecessary, as they often lead to ridicule from those who were the source of the OP's agita. So if you're going to take a leave under similar consequences, deny these people the pleasure by just leaving quietly without any fanfare, as parting letters, although a source of sympathy, never do much of anything to change who certain people are or how they act, or the general behaviour of a website's members...

The OP has no idea what contentious is. I remember when this place started. Any discontent witnessed now is mild compared to 1999.

Before you leave let me remind you:

    45 > 9
    Mary Anne > Ginger
    Trump > Hillary
    Bacon > Beer
    Sig 365 > Glock 43

Just so you know how the deck is stacked before you return!

As illustrated in post #15 ?

If the OP was still here, since 2008, he might thank you for your enlightenment.
