"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have."

The welfare cliff - no way most of these people will ever be able to earn the amount the gov gives them - so they are trapped.

If they do get a job and start earning their own pay they will lose more $ in benefits than they earn working.

You can understand why they do what they do -

I had many people turn down promotions because it would have put them into an income bracket where their benefits would be cut off.

The real killer was daycare assistance - you lose that you end up quitting your job because the daycare bill eats half your check.

Just wondering - why you thought you could find "polite conversation with mature adults" on this forum?

You just joined yesterday - did you read any of the threads before you joined?

You have not even been here long enough to have earned the right to properly flounce out -

    BTW welcome to GT. :bunny:

    Thanks for the heads up.
My wife worked for a grocery store. Some of the fattest customers were on the Gov food stamp program.
The US has the worlds fattest 'poor people'.

I went back to post#57 to see what was going on in this thread. If my memory is correct(?),I have never claimed to be a mature adult, nor has anyone, again to my recollection, ever written that I am.This is an information forum and also a fun forum, most like each other even if we disagree. There is much very good information that we share, discuss and ask about. Are we children?Probably at heart even though many of us are older in age,but not in heart and mind.Everyone should enjoy this forum, but one cannot please everyone.

Just got back from a run into town. Grocery store seemed pretty well stocked up. OJ and butter a little sparse. They are gonna' have special early hours for old folks like @Ramjet38 starting next week. Saw a couple people with gloves and masks. Beer cooler and wine/liquor shelves full. Didn't check out the toilet paper aisle. Couple signs about the 6 foot rule.....but think the cute little check-out girl just put those up when she saw me drive into the parking lot.

Now they have your location when they run low. ;)
I told the wife we were going shopping 7:30am. (Store opens 8) She was thinking Wednesday. I suggested with expected crowd Tuesday if we skip Monday we go Friday. So now Monday is the plan. I have been going alone. (Because she was in CO isolated, finally drive home). I doubt I can get her to stay home.

A few major food processing plants are reporting employees with confirmed covid-19.

Guess what happens to the store shelves when the companies that process and package the food shutdown.

With three million filing for unemployment benefits just last week I kinda have a feeling that SNAP benefits are gonna go up dramatically in the next few months

I could be wrong but didn’t they move away from reloading benefits on the first a long time ago? I thought they spread the reload days around during the month.

I'm not sure...I work in pharmacy and it always SEEMS crazier around the first. Any grocery store employees care to chime in?

Regardless, seems like sound advice which I took this AM. Scored good bread for the first time in over a week! Everything but the TP and yogurt was in decent shape.
