I've never been into boxing but I've become a pretty big fan of this guy even though I've read he's pretty much done with the fighting game. For those in the know. Is he good or no? I think this clip was a good example of how hard he hits anyway.

He's a great fighter when compared to normal men who enter tough man contests and a few bottom of the barrel boxers. But not when compared to other great or even half decent boxers.

Larry Holmes clowned him when he was over 50 years old.

When Chuck Norris punches someone they actually travel forward in time and sleep until the rest of the world catches up. Butterbean pales in comparison.

Sometime back in the mid-90s I was sitting ringside when they had Friday Night Fights at the Forum when I first saw him. They brought him out into the ring and were shilling his upcoming fight in Vegas. I was with my former boss and he yells "The Butterbean, give me a break, look at that guy" and starts laughing. It got picked up by the mic and the whole place erupted with laughter. Jorge Paez was sitting a few seats over and had tears streaming down his face he was laughing so hard. That's how I'll remember the Butterbean.

Boxing > Fighting (in the boxing ring).

If you want to fight, go do some MMA. This is, of course, not implying boxing is better than MMA.

Not a great fighter by any means. I do ,however, think it might be an interesting fight between him and the "Butterbean" of the UFC Kimbo Slice.

For free of course. I would pay a dime to see it.

What Butterbean shows is that you don't want to let a large man hit you. He had a heck of a whallop in his arms. I don't think he could have taken Tyson in his prime though.

There's a difference between being a fighter amd a brawler.

But, a record of 77-8 and 4 isn't to bad.

    Hard hitter, mediocre fighter.

Put him in the ring with a real fighter. One that could take a beating, and watch Butterbean get his *** handed to him.
