Only in law enforcement...gotta love it when you don't have a good witness, the "victim" is 100% uncooperative and it takes 10 minutes to even get her to tell her name, the "suspect" is nowhere to be found and you can't establish that a crime occurred, and you are directed to write a detailed report on how you can't show that a crime occurred and why you didn't find the suspect and arrest him. Twenty years ago, that same incident would have been cleared in about three minutes with nothing more than telling dispatch "I'm clear".

I would happily go back to a revolver and single-channel walkie-talkie if we can bring back common sense and simplicity with them.

Sounds like admin is covering themselves from a complaint that you guys didn't do enough to solve a crime.

What about a "victim" that only knows people by their street name, never the name their mother gave them. I beleive this is why on our reports there is a box that you can check that says "victim refused to cooperate".

    That's funny stuff.

Just yesterday a prosecutor e-mailed me and asked for "detailed notes" on an offender's lack of compliance with some bond conditions imposed by a judge. My response was "details only exist when they actually DO something.... my notes say 'non-compliant'."

There was a policy against "common sense", but it had to be repealed because of the unwritten policy that policies cannot make sense.

you spent 9 minutes too long on that call. No complainant = No crime. Its BS that you have a report that shows no crime occurred.

We had a patrol captain a few years ago who mandated that a report would be written on all calls we responded to, even if the caller didn't want a report. Lasted about three days, calls backed waaaay up. Some reports were amazingly detailed just to show that no action was taken or requested.

We still do. Bonus points if we can find a reason to hook the "victim"
