    How so?

    Loud?

    Lots of smoke?

    Kicks hard?

Blows large holes in the earth?

I have seen that load for sale, but thought of it as more of a gimmick.

I have them and love them. Buck & Ball is a part of my top 3 choices for home defense. Its almost like having the knock down power of a slug with the benefit of multiple hits of buck all in one.

At 25 yards the buck ball hit about where I aimed it, and the smaller buckshots still hit pretty close to where it hit, maybe 4-5 inches away from where the round ball hit. Recoil is more noticable, like shooting a slug, but its tolerable. I really liked how it kept its pattern at that distance.

Back when I loaded shotgun shells I loaded a B&B load and used it for the HD shotgun load. I made several different loads using different size balls and pellets.
    It was VERY impressive.

I thought I was on to a new thing until I read that they used B&B loads in the Civil War and before.

    That is what I'm thinking.

    What is the point?

I would think the ball would over-penetrate in the house. The buckshot is the big advantage of the shotgun for pattern and limited penetration.

Very old idea. When you would go meat hunting you didn't know what you might find so a combination of birdshot + round ball could prepare you for large of small game.

Heck, 00Buck will over penetrate just fine on it's own!

Or you could look at it as having the negatives of both of them, over penetration of the slug with the accountability of lots of little projectiles flying all over the place.

It goes back to the Revolutionary War. General George Washington was a proponent of buck and ball.
