Is one supposed to eat the rind?
It's optional. Some people think it's the best part. It certainly won't hurt.
I have always eaten the rind; and have never seen anyone not eat the rind. Some cheses are a definte aquired taste: I tease my wife because she does not like brie, but I have to admit I don't like my brie at room temp (and melted all over) but rather I like it cool and firm.
