Breaking up the U.S. into multiple countries

Discussion in 'Political Issues' started by TheDreadnought, Nov 8, 2019.

  1. Yes - Everyone would be better off if the U.S. was split into 2 or more separate countries.

  2. No - The U.S. should stay united, even if people hate each other and want different things.

Assume that there is no sudden pivot to sanity by the left. If anything it continues to get worse. Also assume that the population that supports Democratic candidates is going to continue to slowly increase as our education system and media does it's thing.

Would you rather stay a united States, or would you rather see some states (NY,CA, whatever) split off and form separate countries?

Set aside the question of how that would happen. . . just consider it from a personal preference standpoint.

Not if Bernie or Pocahontas or the perve get elected to the federal government.

States, as we know them, and the constitution as we know it, will cease to exist.

    We will all be comrades.

Breaking up would be an interesting exercise, but don't see it benefiting too many people except lawyers. Brexit struggle in UK may give some idea. Plus as Mayhem Like Me says, states still theoretically have lots of options under the Constitution.

In my opinion, it would be better to get back to less federal power as a way to original Constitutional status. But the devil is always in the details and things will break during any transition.

I would really start changing my mind if enough states' legislatures start voting to change the original U.S. Bill of Rights.

Well if the New Madrid fault goes the country will be split in twoBut politically regional government maybe more efficient, with areas that have more common geography and ideology.

Except when the federal government grows in power, ignores states' rights, and intrudes more and more into your personal life and takes more and more of your money.

To the progressives that are taking over the country, states' rights is a antiquated idea in a document they believe is constantly evolving. You know, like the Second Amendment.

"Sigh" second amendment, Bill Of Rights, was not intended to apply to states that is why all states had their own constitutions and New York's was more restrictive than the US constitution from the beginning. Constitution limited Federal government and control if we went back to that and threw out incorporation we would be back to normal.

This is a double edge sword. The leftists are allowed to infect other states. We seem to be seeing mass insanity.

Everything fed gov has the authority to do is in the Constitution. We need to get to where everyone knows that. Then these United States would be a lot better off.

What a stupid question. Almost as stupid as Texas seceding.

We can do it in Texas economically, but how long do you think it would be before the Mexican Army made us part of Coahuila-Texas again, as pre-1836?

Split the USA up and it would be the end of freedom and self-determination as we know it.

Of course the likelihood of that happening is about zero.

Except that what is also in the Constitution is the SCOTUS which gets to interpret the Constitution however they see fit. What the Constitution actually says has become pretty much meaningless.

It could not work as we are all too intertwined and if it did all the Liberals would quickly move to the Conservative areas as that is how they survive as parasites.

Maybe we need Virtual Countries. We have virtual everything else including money (Bitcoin) so why not like people communicating online forming countries.

Geography is overrated. We have people setting up colonies here still communicating with their fellow countrymen back home. I have more in common with people thousands of miles away just on the fact they speak the same language.

In theory federalism would fix everything. In practice we get economic refugees from liberal meccas that taint local politics.

Ignoring all the other obvious issues - it would be a geographical problem, wouldn't it?

Most of the left coast, and the northern part of the east coast and the main regions that would break off, right? Just being non-contiguous seems to be a problem.

But more to the point we are already a country divided into 50 parts. I think everyone can find a part they like.

Or, just complain forever. Whatever works.

Not really. West Coast could be a country. NY/Northeast could be a separate country. If we split up Texas would probably want to be their own country, just given their history.

Many of these now separate countries would have enough economic activity to support their own militaries. Although they wouldn’t be exporting troops all over the world the way we do today.
