Took my brand new G-19 to the range a couple of days ago, and had 3 FTF's out of the first 5 rounds. The remaining 10 rounds of the first mag fed just fine. Next, the second magazine also had several FTF's. This was using Winchester White Box 115 gr, FMJ. Switched to Blazer 115 gr FMJ's, refilled the same mag two more times and had no further problems. Still, based on the Glock reputation for reliability right out of the box, the initial FTF's do cause me some concern.

Even though this is my first time shooting a Glock, I'm a long time shooter, so I don't think it was a case of limp wristing.

I really don't know what questions to ask. Ammo? Something wrong with the gun? Break-in issue?

Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ed

Probably a break-in problem with the mags.

Did you break the weapon down and clean and lube it before going to the range? Do you have some other mags you can try?

What kind of mags were you using? Were they 10 or 15rd mags? OEM?
I'm sure whatever it is, is very simple and your G19 will be running 100% very soon.

My G-19 does not like Blazer ammo. I will get at least 1 FTF per box.

I'm surprised that so far, Glock has not printed in their instructions that new pistols need to be shot 50 or 100 or 200 (or whatever) rounds before being considered reliable. Like the Kahr. Just a little sentence like that would settle a lot of concerns.

I use all different types of FMJs and JHPs in my 19 Including the ones listed here and haven't had a single malfunction or FTF of any kind.

Clean it, lube it, try it again. Still FTF, contact Glock.

I'll second that. A new glock or any gun gets broke down, cleaned, properly lubricated and checked for functionality before any range time. Always use OEM magazines. Never a malfunction! :wow:

Add me to this list. I've never had a ftf, fte, ftrb or any other malfunction with any of my Glocks. Yes, I shoot them regularly.

I would keep the mags. loaded for a couple days to break them in and then try it again. Of course after you properly clean and lube your 19.

    Remember...Glocks don't jam, only people do..lol

I never had any malfunction with Glock either. Few thousand rounds in my G19C.

    Thanks,

I'm not saying the OP's problem is limp wristing, but I see a lot of folks at the range and even in competition allowing these guns to have their way with them. If you are shooting a 9mm and have a proper grip that thing should not flip at all.

Whenever opening a new box of ammo make sure you do a quick scan of the jacket on the round to make sure there are no gaffs or cuts with edges. Sometimes if you get a round with a gaf in it the edge of that will dig into the feed ramp and cause a FTF. It's not really a gun issue, but something to look at when shooting reloads or FMJ practice ammo.
First place I always look for FTF issues is the mags though.

Oh and add me to the "Never had an issue" column

No malfunctions of any kind here either with my G19.

    I've shot Monarch 115 FMJ, Federal American Eagle 115 FMJ, 124 FMJ, & 147 TMJ and HST 147 JHP, Speer Lawman 115 & 124, WWB in 115.

I had a lot of problems with my first glock. It ran well the first year, but then started having firing problems. It took the gunsmith several tries to solve the situation.
