The Boy Scouts of America announced Wednesday that girls will soon be allowed to become Cub Scouts and to earn the coveted rank of Eagle Scout, the organization’s highest honor.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/boy-scouts-will-admit-girls-allow-them-earn-eagle-scout-n809836

There are three generations of Eagle scouts in my family.

I didn't like it, but I overlooked female scoutmaster/ leaders
I didn't like it, but I overlooked gay scoutmaster / leaders
I didn't like it, but I overlooked transgender scouts
I can't overlook this. I'm done with the "Boy" Scouts. They have jumped the shark. No more money from me.

The Boy Scouts was the last place a boy could just be a boy. It's a crucial part of growing up.

    Well crap.

I totally get the female scoutmasters - especially for the cub scouts. There just aren't enough guys that will do it.

What the hell is wrong with the girl scouts that makes the boy scouts have to take girls allofthesudden?

Given the success of the Boy Scout program over the decades and given especially the success of a fair number of Eagle Scouts over the years I agree this is an unwise move. Further, considering that there is the Girl Scout organization and that both boys and girls can be part of the Explorer program I am not sure I see any real need.

I hope I am reading it right in that there won't be boys and girls in a Boy Scout troop, but there will be troops for boys and troops for girls. But both will be able to reach Eagle. Almost like the Boy Scouts of America are taking over the Girl Scouts or something.

I swear to Christ - why can't these organizations like NOW just butt out of stuff like this? Or are they admitting that programs that are organized just for girls are a failure?

    I don't get it.

And it's not just this. Remember when female golf players kept trying to play on the PGA tour?

I wonder how many people that posted in the Israeli Captain thread will now contradict themselves in this thread?

No more... G.S. cookies? (sad face if so or if the BSA gets involved in cookie sales. Popcorn, sure... cookies, no. They do not go well with cereal malt beverage)

As long as they do not lower expectations and requirements for Eagle rank as a result, I have no issues with Girl Boy Scouts.

I do note that BSA has changed a few merit badge requirements by adding alternatives to a number of the mandatory M.B.s since I was a Scout. Lifesaving alternate is Emergency Preparedness, Swimming alts are cycling and/or hiking, etc.

One bad decision after another so they have to expand the membership to females so they can stay alive. Just another example of once the left gets involved in an organization it heads downhill fast. I sent my Eagle stuff back once they allowed gay scoutmasters. I feel sorry for the kids because once You add the opposite sex to any organization male or female it changes the dynamics.

I don't mind the mixing of boys and girls.

But what I don't like is when boy's organizations/teams are asked to allow girls; but girl's organizations/teams will not allow boys.

For example, it isn't uncommon to see a couple girls playing on a boy's soccer team. But they won't let a boy play on a girl's soccer team. In college, scholarship money is given to the teams. Men should be able to compete for a spot on the women's team.

At the world cup level, now that the US men's national team is out, all of those guys should be able to walk over to the US women's national team and try out for spots.

Or else, let there be separate boy's organizations/teams that do not allow girls :)

They're just being gender neutral. The new norm. What's the problem, all you flat earthers?

I stopped at your first one. I started in the Scouts as a Bobcat. Earned my Arrow of Light, earned my Eagle with one palm at 16yo, was Lodge Chief of Shenshawpotoo #276 also at 16yo, and made Vigil Honor. My senior year of high school, I stepped back a bit in my troop, took the "Instructor" position and let someone else be Senior Patrol Leader. The Scouts did good by me, then.

About 6 years later, my little brother was going to camp for his last summer and his troop's Asst. Scoutmaster couldn't go at the last minute. I filled in as Asst. Scoutmaster, and was shocked when I got to camp to see female adults there with some troops. I was asked to stay on, but told the Scoutmaster the organization was obviously changing for the worse. I certainly wasn't wrong.

    Sucks.

OMG! Did you just assume the gender of a scout?
