I had wanted to buy a new EX250 but after dealing with two prick dealerships I said to hell with it. Went to a used bike "superstore" and purchased a 2003 EX500 with 2500 miles on it. There are two small cracks in the upper fairing on the right side. Otherwise it is virtually mint other than the rear tire which probably has 60% of its original tread remaining.

Drove back to my hometown, stopped at the DOT and took the written test to get my permit(I had studied the WI DOT Motorcyclist's Handbook the night before). Passed, got my permit and I've put about 50 or 60 miles on it so far.

I definitely like riding it. Good power and there's not much peakiness in the powerband. Seems to handle good, though I have very little riding experience so I pretty much creep through corners at the posted limit.

I look forward to spending 10-15 bucks a week on gas, while my V-8 F150 gas hog rots in my garage

I REALLY REALLY wanted a new SV but I wasn't going to finance any part of a bike. I'll ride this for a year and sell it/get an SV next spring if I have the $.

This week I'm going to go buy a good riding jacket/gloves.

    Here's a picture of it:

Congrats, I used to play on a 500EX back when I was working at the motorcycle dealer over a decade ago. Rent "True Lies" if you want some quality 500EX m@sturbation material... The arab dude gives a pretty good chase.

Before cutting the high speed corners too close, bear in mind that the original tires are 3 years old, and arguably not high performance even when they were new.

Also, buy some new brake fluid and bleed the squeezers. ;)

I spy what appears to be a V-8 Ford in your garage but it don't look much like a F150. ;)

I've got an older version of that same bike, it is my first bike.

I already have a nice helmet.

Boots and pants are on the list as well, but I can't buy it all at once. I'll need to wait an additional week or two for those.

"Corner carving", well it's not really carving at this point. I'm aware that the stock tires suck. After I get riding gear I may put fresh/upgraded tires on it. Thanks for the tip on the brake fluid, I'll do that. I'll have to find out what kind of fluid I should use, this thing didn't come with an owner's mnaual. I'll assume you bleed them the conventional way just like you do with a car... But I am going to buy a shop service manual for it as well.

That mustang belongs to my brother:supergrin: Till I re-arrange some stuff, my truck gets parked in the driveway.

Congrats on the EX500. I cut my teeth on an EX500 back in the days as well.

Generally the brake master cylinder cover on the handlebars will say "DOT 3" or "DOT 4", or give some indication of what to use.

Congrats on the new ride. Like Tex T, I'd highly recommend the Motorcycle Safety Foundation beginner course.

    Congrats on the new scoot!

Now do yourself a favor and park the scoot until you take the MSF course.

    Take care and ride safe.

Nice, wish they had a "used bike superstore" around here :)
