I bought a used KBI/BAIKAL Makarov today. Pretty cool little pistol. It appears to not have been shot much.
The pistol came with 2 magazines (1 wrapped in plastic), holster and cleaning rod. AND... the original inner and outer boxes plus the manual.
I admit it was an impulse buy, I'll clean and lube it in the morning. I think it's pretty cool.

Then I have to go back to the LGS: They have a couple of S&W 686s on the used rack, I'll consider trading my 581 for one. [At my age the 686 sights work better]

Nice. Kinda want one, but don’t want to get into another caliber.

I would think a 581 would be worth more than any 686 based on rarity.

I found one at a garage sale for $10. was missing safety & had no mags. got her running.so far, several hundred trouble free rounds shot. made my brass for reloading out of 9mm brass.

I think I'll keep the 581, which I call "My king size Model 10." might go look at the 686s though.

If the 686 is pre-lock, go for it:alien:

I bought one 25 years ago when then first started showing up, shot the snot out of it. It was a cheap purchase and cheap ammo, paid less than $150 for the gun and ammo was about $4 for a 50 rd. box! I finally sold it for $300 when the ammo got to $14 a box.

Other than it got expensive to shoot, I loved that pistol!

If the 686 is a pre lock Plus in 2.5, 3, or 4", please pass on it and send me an immediate PM. :)

And please don't tell anyone else.

When I brought the 6th one home from the gun show my Wife asked,
    Why I needed 6 Makarovs? :)

Every time someone shot my Mac, they "had to have one". So I "lost" 6 or 7.

At the time they were so inexpensive, $135, whenever I had money left over at the Gun Show, I'd buy another Mac.

Once I used a new Bulgarian Mak and 500 rounds of JHP and 500 rounds of FMJ ammo and tried to make the gun malfunction.

    I dunked it in mud.

Left it (and ammo) in water overnight.

Filled it's insides with "pocket lint".

    Etc, etc.

    Had two malfunctions.
A dud round and mud blocked the hammer on the first trigger pull. It fired on the 2nd trigger pull and the rest of the magazine with no problem.

I bought one of the unissued Bulgarians several years back. Very pleased with it. I'm always tempted to get another just because.

    I just shot a 9x18 Bulgarian Mak.

    I haven't shot a Mak in a while.
I forgot what a nice gun they are. I believe I'll shoot them some this week.

I have to admit to a dumb ass mistake I just made.
A Mak has been laying on my reloading bench for some time.
(Gun are all over my reloading shop. I freguently grab one and step outside to the backyard shooting range)

I got 5 magazines and a couple boxes of 9x18 Barnaul JHP (good Russian ammo) out of a 50 cal ammo box.

    Loaded the mags.
When I tried to chamber a round, it jams (TIGHT) trying to enter the chamber.
    Then I see the gun is a .380, instead of a 9x18.

So, I got my head out of my ass and had to work at clearing the gun. The 380 steel case round was jammed tight.

I have owned 2 of them. bought a new one in mid 90s I think for $124. sold it for $300 after they became popular. I still had reloads from the first one. the garage sale MAK was rough looking. filthy dirty & missing its safety & no mags. it cleaned up way better than I thought it would. safety on these hold the firing pin in which I had. ordered a safety for it. found out these can be shot loading round in chamber without damage to extractor. it shot great, so I picked up some used Russian mags for it. I probably have put 500 rounds thru the both of them, all reloads. not one failure to fire or jam. made my brass for garage sale MAK out of nickle plated 9mm brass. that way it will help to keep them separated from my 9mm brass. only downside is that they really fling the brass. I had to make a brass catcher for my shooting table.
