As the GEN 4s get phased in, how difficult will it be to get magazines (I'm hearing the new ones won't fit Gen 3), recoil spring assemblies, and other non-Gen 4 compatible parts for Gen 3 and earlier? I went with Gen 3 because of its proven track record and no need for the adjustable backstraps. Sorry if this has been addressed.

It has been addressed, but there will be no parts shortages.

The Gen4 Mags fit the Gen3, and vice versa

I had not heard that. That is a bad move. If this is the case I will definitely be sticking with the Gen 3.

There wont be a shortage of gen 3 parts. Even today parts that only fit on Gen 2s are readily available from places like lone wolf or midway.

I think you heard wrong. It appears that as long as you don't reverse the mag catch in the Gen4 guns, the mags will interchange.

Sorry to hijack, but what is the purpose of the rectangular cuts in the newer mags? I had thought it may have been for an HK style mag release, but I guess not.

    Thanks!

That's the notch for Glock's first 'ambi' mag catch. I figure they had planned to use it on all models as they started making all mags with the notch, but then the ambi catch didn't work out well and the only model in the US that has an ambi mag catch as an option is the G21SF.

Ahh. I see. Thank you Sir! I wonder if they'll continue making these then or if these ambi cuts will begin to disappear once their stock is depleated.

The ambi-mag release cut will still be on the magazines, because Glock makes ambi-mag release Glocks for buyers in the EU.

The Glock 17MB and 19MB have been available in the EU for last 2-3 years.

I just checked out a 4th gen 17 today. The mags have the cut in the front and one on the nontraditional side for the chance that the owner converts it to left handed mag release. If you never convert to left hand, the original mags from forever ago will work.
