I love my G29 and want a G20. I CCW my 29 with 150 grain Underwood ammo. Functions perfectly and runs 1450 FPS.

How about a full house .41 Magnum load out of a 10" barreled Desert Eagle? ;)

10mm recoil is overhyped, even with most hot ammo. A G20 should be a non event. 10mm is a service caliber, nothing crazy. I love me some 10mm G29.

I purchased a G29/4 off the Blue Label program a few years ago. Really a nice shooter but I went to a 1911 in 10mm for my EDC. Problem is round count. I use Wilson 9 round magazines with 165gr Underwood loaded Gold Dots. I keep threatening to get a G20/4 but haven't done it for some reason... I now think it is probably time!

I have looked at the G20 in a gen 4 many times and waxed and waned about getting one. I am head on when reading about them and their performance and then put the brakes on when I look at my .40 reloading data.

I am loading a cast 180g at 1200fps out of my G22 gen 4 and that loading matches or in some limited options out performs many of the off the shelf everyday loading for the 180g in the 10mm. It seems to me that only by using some of the heavy hitters in the ammo world like Underwood, Corban etc would I get the extra fps difference. Then I wonder if the bear or cougar or wolf would notice the difference between my .40 hot loads and the Underwood stuff.

I've thought about adding a 6" KKM to the G22 to gain some fps and energy but haven't moved on that one yet.

Both model have the same capacity and I like the G22 gen 4 size and ease of shooting.

Am I missing something that would be a significant upgrade by moving to a G20 over what I have currently ???

For target shooting or defense vs humans, no, you’re not missing much of anything. In fact my 10mm sd ammo for anything but the woods is Hornady custom 180 xtp at around 1150.

What you do get with 10mm is the ability to push 200 or 220 grain past the 1200 FPS mark for anti-critter (bear or moose) application.

Congrats on the new pistol. My gen 3 is my favorite handgun. It does it all except pocket carry. Mild to wild ammo, it cycles it all. Bone stock out of the box.

I cast, coat and heat treat a 200 gr WFN and load that to 1250 fps. Recoil is very manageable in that platform. It also cycles 200 grainers at 690 fps. How's that for versatile?

Lately, playing with a 6.2 KKM 9x25 conversion with a 90 gr JHP at 2100 fps. That's been some fun.

So go shoot a bunch of different ammo with it and have some fun. Being uneventful is what makes it such a good gun. Mine just runs and runs. Sometimes I even clean it.

My gen 4 g20 is my nightstand pistol loaded with 180gr underwood. The second there is a gen 5 I will go to Smyrna and throw my wallet at the door till I get one.

Now I'm a revolver man.. and 1911 man. Grew up with Colt "O" and Smith "K" since I was 16. But... I have to admit I've gravitated to the Glock 26/43 for CCW and Glock 29sf for the street and woods. The 9mms for defense and 10mm for woods (but they can be switched around and 9mm for woods and 10 for defense!)

Not quite as accurate as my S&Ws nor Kimber 1911s but.. good enough.

G29 is quite difficult to find in north-east here as it is used mostly as an anti-bear remedy, it is quite small and nice to have with you on long hikes. it is a lot of black bears here now... and they are not really scared of people that much anymore.

Good point there on the upper upper end of the performance platform with premiums ammo.

It would be interesting to find out the added ft lbs of energy those 200 and 220 grain slugs provide
