Yep, you can retune the ecu with your phone for about 150$. The tune is great and plenty conservative. I think 10 or 11 is the last year from the n54 twin turbo in the 135. I always thought bimmers see over priced and over hyped. I was wrong. Excellent cars! Some have issues but do the research and avoid them. If you can find one get one with the M sport package. Better handling and some driver oriented upgrades to the interior. Once you get one you'll love it. I was a hardcore Volvo guy for over 20 years but the 335 changed that. On rare instance you can find a car with the factory power pack, adds 40 hp, bigger radiator and a second oil cooler. BMW only claims a 26hp increase but Dyno tests show that it's roughly 40 hp on the n54 cars

If my left leg still worked as well as it used to I'd be driving a 2013 E82 135i. My wife's 2011 X3 35i, bought new, same N55 engine, is at 133K miles and drives like new.

I looked at the x3 also but I wanted the n54. So I wound up with my 335i x drive M Sport. If I was going for a 2 door the 135 would be it.

After I sold me E28 535i I really struggled with what to get next. I ended up with a 4 door manual e90 M3.

    Love it.

It is hands down the best car I have ever owned or driven.

Yeah my brother’s Carrera 4s is sportier but I have a real trunk and usable rear seats for when I am shuttling my kids around.

And frankly my NA engine and stock pipes sounds better then his turbo and stock pipes.

Oh, another thing to consider. I believe the n55 cars all had the electronic power steering. If you enjoy real road feel you don't want the electric steering, it's numb and over powered compared to traditional hydralic steering.

Any rod bearing problems yet? I hear that V8 is hit or miss on those unlike the m5 v10 that is a matter of when and how bad the rod bearing go bad, not IF.

BMW put out some high quality vehicles and they are good for the first 80k miles. My friend owns 135, its nice but atrocious maintenance cost. Just do you home work, if $$$ is an issue. Is with me...

I have 63,000 miles on it. No trouble yet. I have an extended warranty to 100,000. So I keep my fingers crossed that it either happens soon or it does not.

I bought a E36 325i about 2 years ago from a neighbor buying a new bmw hardtop convert. Mine has a bunch of miles and a new top and a excellent hardtop as well. All the leather and carpet looks very good. I got all the service records. I like the car a lot. I got an automatic because it is for my daughter to drive. Next one i buy will be a manual. Maybe a E46 330 i 5 speed. Hopefully a hard top.

Look at the club listings and bimmerfest listings, be careful of bring a trailer..

I ended up getting a '16 M235i with only 8k miles! Thanks for the input, everyone!

It's bittersweet, this is my first car I've owned (15 so far) that's an auto but luckily the DCT/paddle shifts are lightning quick and it will even hold a gear unless you shift it (found out the hard way lol).

Congrats!! Not a true dct (same zf-8 in my 340i) but damn quick shifts!! And, yes, it'll let you take full control.

I went back and forth big time on the 340i vs m235i. I'm a huge fan of sport sedans, but when I drove the m235i, it handled much like a large go-kart and was sooooo much fun. If I didn't have a 3 year old (and a bad back) I would've chose the m235i.

Enjoy it!! And, when you're ready to tune, check out Bootmod3 (bootmode) by Protuningfreaks. Also, if you want more sound, I added a Dinan midpipe and agency power intake to my 340i and it sounds f'ing phenomenal with the factory M Sport exhaust.

    Congrats again!!

Thank you and awesome, I was looking for must-have first mods and pipe/tune were up on my list. Ah so this is not a true DCT? Wow I really want to drive a car with it now.

While not a true dct (the M2 is a dct), still a fantastic tranny nonetheless and offers shifts faster than pretty much any auto out there.

Yeah, the midpipe was worth every penny, as was the intake. Hearing that turbo spool is a glorious thing. Also, for a quick cheap tune, check out the JB+ by Burger Motorsports. Less than $200, 2 minute install, and an easy 20+ hp gain. I have it currently installed on mine and it's awesome. That said, I'll be switching to stage 1 bootmod3 asap.
