Convair was a big believer in the delta wing concept, witnessed by not just the B-58, but the F-102 and F-106 Daggers. and Darts.
Convair was a big-time subcontractor to McDonnell Douglas and built much of the Atlas boosters for NASA during the race to the moon.
And how can we forget the notorious Pogo?

Good company until General Dynamics ate them.

NB when I was a lad, I remember getting a plastic model of the B-58 Hustler for 50 cents and some cereal box tops. Loved that model.

Yep, they shut down the Broadway bridge and were hauling people in by bus from who knows where. Apparently it was a cluster **** . I skipped out on that and I didn't want to pay the 20 bucks either to get in. Went in through the city market and posted up on the bridge nearing the bottoms from across the river. Well played move and still a killer view.

Uh, aircarver, my good friend, just to refresh my failing, old-person memory, the premiere air superiority aircraft extant has .... how many engines? And how many vstabs?

Oh, wait. It's a Lockheed product. :tongueout:
All it needs is a big hook.

I must say, having grown up in the 50s, there seemed to be a new fighter every 15 minutes. That was a great time to be a kid building models. :dancingbanana:

    Well ... ...a ... Well .... ...a... Well .... ...a... Well .... ...a...

It has two engines 'cuz the AF wanted a Super F-15 ... and said so ... .... and Lockheed's credo is 'know yer customer' ......

... and the fins canted every whichway is for 'stealth' (and no corner reflectors ....) Vstabs was still two, last I looked ... :tongueout:

"Not a pound for air to carrier"
AKA: "Navy can't have them" ....

That would have been a great time to be a pilot. Hey! Lets try strapping a rocket to an F-100 and shooting it of a flatbed truck! Uh... sure! why not?

Hey ! If it worked for the Bomarc Missile, putting a hapless pilot aboard was the next 'logical' step ! ...
