If having a gun, or multiple guns in one's home is so inherently dangerous why don't insurance companies charge home owners higher liability rates?

With the exception of providing the insurance company with photos and an inventory of my guns for the purpose of obtaining a damage, (destruction) and theft rider I've never even been asked by an insurance company if I own a gun(s).

As I once asked past Governor Romer, (Colorado) after he vetoed the CCW bill with the reasoning that we have police and sheriff's departments to protect our citizens... "We've had organized law enforcement agencies in this country for over 200 years yet we still use phrases such as 'serial killer' and 'serial rapist'.

His response was something to the effect that it would be unreasonable to expect that law enforcement can protect everyone all the time.

Silly me, I thought that was the point of my question.

    VIGILANTES: We don't need Bloomberg.

Statistics show if you have a Bloomberg in office you are 100% more likely to hear something stupid. You are better off not having a bloomberg.

I'm sure he'll get right on providing a citation to back up his stat.

While I am not a LEO, I am a Ph.D. Econometrician (a statistician who specializes in economic data). The study that Bloomingidiot is referencing is the Kellerman study in the New England Journal of Medicine. IIRC it actually said 4 times--not 22 times. BYW, I have heard it quoted as 43 times as likely to be killed if you have a gun in your home.

Kellerman's study has been de-bunked so many times that it is not even funny any more. His study is so riddled with sample-selection bias that it has absolutely no validity. The method that he used to gather his sample virtually guarantees the result that he and NEJM wanted. If he had sent that to any reputable journal that deals with statistical data on a regular basis it would have been rejected immediately.

He would probably say he was just adjusting for inflation.

From what I've heard, Freakonomics here is right. And it does fit into that old saying, "There are 3 types of lies: lies, damn lies and statistics."

what a shame, my grandfather had to suffer so long an agonizing death from emphazima, when he had several guns in his house, grandma died a more pleasant death in her sleep at the age of 98, no bang required. Also, i thought the quote from Boobburg was " he that lives by the sword, dies by the sword":faint:Wrong era?

Too bad we can't post your words in a comment section of the bloomberg article.

Can you give something succinct so we can debunk Bloomberg's story? An article about Kellerman's study or something? I'd love to be able to smash their claims with a good article or link.

ETA: I love the hypocrisy from Bloomberg. Don't have a gun but I'll walk around with a group of bodyguards.

I'd also like to add that had Zimmerman not had a gun that night, he'd be the dead one and Martin would have gotten away with murder.
