This action will be interesting; it is based on a "quota" concept, but (as usual) without ever mentioning the word "quota".

Based on TV news coverage earlier this evening, the fundamental core of the lawsuit is that there have been 660 contestants in the show history, but only 29 have been identifiable as minority. In this case, minority is used by the plaintiff as meaning Black or Hispanic. The action, brought by Black groups, holds that since Blacks are about 10% of the US population, Blacks should be about 10% of the contestants. Since the 29 identified minority contestants are mostly identified as Black, the action contends that Black representation on the show is only half of the Black population proportion of the entire country. Hence, a "disparate impact" claim of discrimination, which is a PC buzzword substitute for "quota". Given the random distribution of 5-to-4 US Supreme Court decisions on the "affirmative action" issue the last 34 years, it is anyone's guess what would be decided if this case ever works it's way up to that court.

Based on that statistic then , blacks should only be 10% of the crime problem...but I think it is more like 90% (?)...so their

    theory ain't working!!!

Bluntly put- maybe people don't want to watch a show with blacks on it? It's all about preferences that drive the dollars. When was the last time a black pornstar made the news?

29 out of 660 applicants and theyre mad a black person didnt get picked?

If blacks are 10% of the population, wouldnt it make sense for networks to shoot for taking the interest of the majority?

Though there have been successful black dating shows. But they had already proven themselves to be interesting characters in other reality shows.

Real Chance of Love was very popular. So was I Love New York. Flavor of Love was popular too, but the star of that show was already a famous musician.

It ain't working, but the theory is still powerful in judging civil actions such as this one.

For 35 years, congress and the presidency have been content to leave the affirmative action issue to the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has been content to give us a series of 5-to-4 decisions that together do not tell us anything. Line up all the Supreme Court decisions on affirmative action since the 1978 Bakke decision, read them all, and tell us what is allowable and what is not. The Supreme Court has essentially thrown ideological dice to determine which way the next 5-to-4 decision will break.
