I've already post this in another thread about the woman who was shot walking her dog's. However I thought it was deserving of its own thread as well.
I will never understand how something like this could ever happen. It really makes me sit back and wonder wether or not it's worth risking my family members or myself every time we head into the NY woods...

The guy who killed the woman will be spending many years in prison. In NY it is illegal to hunt after sunset. He was so revved up to get a buck that he decided to take a 200 yard shot with a pistol in the dark in a residential area and obviously couldn't see what he was shooting at.

Many years ago, some fool shot a large guy, maybe 230# who was in an open field in broad daylight. Claimed he thought the guy was a woodchuck!!! Really??? Hard to swallow that excuse. Never heard what happened to the idiot shooter. Don

Can we ban him from ever owning a gun a again? He should not be allowed in the same room with one.

The original news article has NO mention of the caliber, nor the distance involved.

To believe a guy was scoping out an area 2 football fields away and saw a movement from that distance then decided to fire at it is preposterous at best .

Where people glommed onto the myth of that 200 yard shot is a mystery, had to be some fakery involved, after all, guys and gals, most average normal shooters can't hit an elephant at 200 yards with ANY pistol in bright daylight leave alone AT NIGHT .

Unless there is a night-vision scope involved , ( very expensive) , and quite possibly useless at that distance AT NIGHT . A rifle scoped likewise ?

    Perhaps.

Now, before I get someone telling me THEY could make such a shot with a pistol AT NIGHT , let me say I've never done it, but know people that shoot that distance with pistols in DAYLIGHT and is not an easy-peasy shot.

These are folks that train and are very anal about shooting, not likely one of these experts would be so irresponsible as to try to get a deer illegally .

All I've met that could do it are very mature , responsible, and take their shooting extremely seriously .

They bench-shoot with very expensive equipment and scopes, not exactly the types to attempt something so pedestrian and illegal.

    Blast away.

    Calling BS on this .

my money is on person with firearm was pissed truck was scaring away game and screwing up his hunting spot. one bullet to disable the vehicle sounds very deliberate to me.

"i thought it was a deer" is a weak excuse for shooting a truck, weaker still for such precise shooting.

disabling a vehicle with one shot is pretty friggin difficult.

I would have believed a better excuse, like, "...I thought it was Hillary wandering about the woods again..."

I would highly encourage political hacks to dress in 'hunter brown' and take to the fields this season.

" Forget 'hunter red' , these antlers are what you folks need ...."

    hunting after dark.
    shooting across a roadway.
    shooting pickups out of season.
in his defense he did kill the truck with one shot.

I'm looking for an XXXXXXL black pantsuit for Hillary now.

If someone said they mistook her for Bigfoot that would sound plausible.

I would support making "Gross negligence with a firearm" a felony. Only luck saved this idiot from killing someone. The other poor woman was not so lucky.

I read where a farmer painted the word "COW" in large letters on the sides of his cows. A "hunter" still shot one in the next season.

    What kind of pistol?

Other than a scoped Contender type hangun, I can't imagine he was being "rational" in taking the shot. Even aside from all the illegalities. Although, in that case he did make the shot on the woman, so who am I to question his shooting skills :)
