My old one just busted. It was a cheap POS. I'd like to replace it with a really good one.

I use it mostly for handguns, but wouldn't mind if it doubled for my rifles.

    What do you recommend?

I suggest that the best gauge is the decidely non-digital, ancient steel rod and lead weights. You can add /14 ounce at a time get more precise results.

You can make one at home with some wire (don't use rope, string or twine; they stretch) an empty gallon milk jug and a bathroom scale. A pint of water weighs approximately one pound. There are 8 pints in a gallon, so you can measure between 0 and 8 pounds.

If you need more weight, such as measuring a revolver double-action, daisy chain milk jugs.

Note that with bathroom scales, you will only be accurate to within .5 pounds.

Measure a trigger with the weight hanging straight down, muzzle up.

Me too. Works well. The face with the numbers/etc slides up & down for zeroing.
