I'm looking to replace my old plasma TV with a 55" smart TV. My buddy recommended
a TCL. It looks like they have different tiers of TVs. I will also be considering Sony, LG, Samsung, etc. I'm also looking to get a Blue Ray player, but I'd like to still play conventional dvd's. I don't know if a 4k DVD player will play old dvd's.

    What are your picks?

TCL is always top of the list. We picked up 2 of the 4k Roku models around the holidays and have been very pleased with them.

We just bought a 55” Samsung Smart TV. Huge improvement over our retired 7 year old 50” Toshiba.

I think that most people on Glock Talk would say that it is hard to beat a Sony Bravia.

I've been thinking about updating minegoing bigger and smart to make Netflix easier to stream.

It is hard to beat an LG OLED unit for picture.

I like our Sony w/ Android built-in. I installed Kodi media player, then hook up a USB hard drive, and we can watch anything we get off the internet (we watch a lot of Japanese TV).

I've had a Hisense for the last 5 years and never had a problem. I find LGs to be garbage.

TCL 6 series at Costco is pretty hard to beat for the price if your budget is $500-$700 for 55"-65". With technology constantly upgrading, it's hard to justify spending more when you know you're going to upgrade in 5 years for whatever technology they invent next.

I just upgraded an LG plasma 60" to a TCL 6 series 65" QLED. Costco had the TCL on sale for $499. Its fantastic. For the money its FanFrigginTastic. HDMI ARC into my receiver for audio and the Roku remote powers everything up and handles most commands. My old Logitech Harmony is no longer needed. My Sony Blu Ray looks fantastic with the 4K upscaling. Watch for a sale on the TCL 6 Series and you will be very happy.

So have we.for the money, they are decent TVs. They aren’t the best, but for gaming, and streaming they are as good or better than out LG.

I have a TCL Roku outdoors (covered patio). I'm thrilled with it for the price. I downloaded the Xfinity Stream app directly to the TV and have full access to all of my Xfinity content ... for free. In the old days, you'd pay $10 per month for an extra cable box.

Many choices now days as prices continue to drop. When at Walmart I walk past the TV's and I am usually amazed at the latest offerings. They had a Samsung 65" series seven on sale for $455ish. That's pretty good pricing.
Depending where you are located, check out CL or FB sites. People often want to upsize from something they recently purchased and you can get some nice deals.
I'm somewhat of a Samsung or LG fan.

I went for a Vizio M series about 18 months ago. 75" 4k smart TV at my 12' viewing distance. I watch 4k on Netflix and Prime, am trying out Sling now.
They claim the picture is limited from the side angles but I find it reasonable sitting 6' back and off to the outside.
