Damn these ants! I just went out and bought some indoor/outdoor Raid and sprayed them like they where on fire!

Thats a good short term solution but what stuff can I get to keep them bastards away?

Reason I ask because there are 101 remedies on Google and 101 products in Walmart but want to know what is effective. Thanks.

Are these sweet- or grease-eating ants? If it's the sweet-eating ants, get a product called Terro. I used to find it in the grocery store up on the top shelf where all the bug sprays were. It's in an orange box about 2"x3". It's boric acid mixed with sugar water. Works wonders.

Boric Acid. take your baseboards off and sprinkle it in the cracks and crevasses, behind your cabinets and whatnot.

If you have pets, just make sure to keep that stuff behind the walls and whatnot. A little won't hurt them but it's easy to OD on it. Yes, this stuff is also used in salves and whatnot.

Ants : This past year have been on a rampage here in Fl, the insect capitol of the world. This homemade treatment has worked very well on both carpenter ants and pharaoh ants.
    Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon of Boric Acid, 1 tsp of Sugar, 4 oz water, Cotton Balls.
Mix Boric Acid and Sugar in a bowl. This can be poured over a cotton wad in a small dish or bottle cap. Keep this from drying out for continued effectiveness. Place Cotton balls in path of Ants.

+1 on the Terro. Will not work right away, yet takes out the whole colony. Not a short-term solution. I keep it handy (all year) up at our place in the sticks.

Terro is good but nothing like it used to be. Blanche Taylor Moore used it to kill several men so it was reformulated.

If you can find the nest, dump some gas in it.

Instant Grits. No kidding. Works like a charm, and is safe around things you don't want to kill. The ants take them back to the hill, and share them. Then when they drink water, they explode.
If humans or pets eat them, they may experience a sudden craving for an RC co-cola and a moon pie, but it will pass! :whistling:

Over and Out works well. You should be able to find it at the local hardware store

Diesel 10 works just fine on ant hills outside . A gallon would go a long ways.

I just bought some regular 'ant traps' from WalMart, the kind that look like a little house, ants go in them and take the poisoned food back to the colony.

Seriously, they were all gone within a day or two.

We had a serious carpenter ant problem, and two years ago, we had what I would guess to be thousand or more of the monsters streaming into our dining room. I used Tempo SC, and I haven't seen them since.

Since the invasion, I've heard good things about boric acid, and it's a lot cheaper than Tempo.
