Girlfriend is going on vacation in 5 days. We have Tyelonol cold and cough, Nyquil, and Theraflu. Should I get her to a doctor for some prescription meds instead?

You mean "sore" throats, right? "Soar" throat means her throat is going along for the plane ride w/the rest of her body.

She needs to go to the doctor to make sure it's not serious. She maybe won't get rid of it without antibiotics. Five days might just work.

Well, she said the chloraseptic (which I also bought her) wears off after 10 minutes.

Armor, oops:rofl: I'll suggest that she goes to the dr. but she probably won't.

No need to go to the doctor for sore throat and a cough unless she's had it for >7 days. Get some OTC stuff and let the doctor handle more important things.

Gargle with apple cider vinegar 3x a day. By day two sytoms will be much better. By day three good as new.

She may need to hold her nose the 1st time.

Mix 1 table spoon apple cider vineagar with one shot of scotch a whole bunch of honey in the bottom of a mug. Add hot water and a tea bag. Drink. Repeat several times a day until sore throat goes away.

This is a secret family recipe so don't tell anyone, ok?

    Hello;

Man itisbruno, You must be old school, I've been using that method for years, Mom's use to do this when ever we were sick.

Listerine and/or gargling warm salt water works just as well, Honey works, I like to also take little slurps of applejuice, and I also like to use some throat pills.

I hate sore throats, I can't stand them. Sometimes a good hard Tequila will help.

Hell, I had a sore throat yesterday morning. Bad. With a cough. Only lasted a few hours, though. Glenfiddich 18 cured what ailed me.

Eases the cough, but does nothing for the sore throat.

The "osmosis" thing works, but I prefer to enjoy the experience.

For the sore throat, she can gargle with saltwater, but she'll need to do this several times a day.

For her cough, if she's congested (and she should be able to tell whether or not she is), choose a cough syrup with guaiphenesin in it. Robitussin is one but take the time to read each one and decide which forumla they have would work best for her type cough.

For some strange reason, my mom always squeezed a little lemon juice into my hot toddies, which were mixtures of honey and whiskey. They weren't bad, really, and they worked fairly well. Helped me rest, too.

Of course, if I were to give this to my kids, and admit to it, half of GNG would accuse me of child abuse, and some would threaten to mete out an ***-whoopin' upon me.

I guess that means my mom abused me, in their eyes. I'd appreciate it if no one whoops her ***, though. She's old and fragile.

Delsym for the cough... Some of the best OTC I've ever had.

If she goes to the dr, something with codeine in it for over-night relief.

Sore throat: Best I"ve found has been a combination of keeping hydrated and gargling with an alcohol-based mouthwash as often as possible. You've got to let it get as far back as possible in the throat, though...without choking.

Personally, I've not ever had much luck with the salt water...but that remedy is as old as the hills.
