Best company for security systems?

The last time I shopped for security systems I bought a great system but trying to figure it out was impossible!! Rather than go through that again, I'd rather hire a company to do it for me.

I'm still not sure whether I'll go monitored or not, I'm leaning toward monitored, but I'd like to know who's known to be the best in terms of companies?

I've heard some horror stories about companies that either install junk, miss coverage areas, etc., and I want to avoid that and have it done right.

EDIT: I forgot to add that I want someone that can install cameras as well, especially a camera/2-way intercom over the front door.

Please share your thoughts and experience.

    Thanks!:)

No point in monitoring, unless you're going for fire, flood or special purpose. That's all I got.

But what if a white guy tries to break in and rape me after a party?!?

Seriously though, what did you mean by special purpose?

    Thanks!

Special purpose would be something unconventional.....such as monitoring conditions in a wine cellar. My point being, alarm systems serve little purpose in protecting a home against intrusion. They can however serve a purpose against threats of another nature. Better to harden the home with doors and windows than to rely on alarm systems for intrusion protection.

The main pupose of this system is either for when we're not home or when my GSD is sleeping too deeply.

Once mommy and daddy are awake, we aren't going to get much more help than good lighting and guns...

    Thanks!

Try Vector Security... I have them in my 2 homes and my office. Great service, local monitoring center, and extremely fast response time.

I use Smith-Thompson for my monitored service. I chose monitored as opposed to passive because I have 3 dogs at home and want the fire department to come let them out if the house is on fire. Also, I like having the cops show to check on the house if I'm not home (or even if I am).

I chose S-T because they offer cellular service with dual-keypads and 24/7 monitoring for ~18 bucks a month. They installed smoke alarms, CO detectors, glass break sensors and intrusion detectors on all doors and windows.

AND, I don't have to have a land line (a big plus for me).

I have been very happy with their service and the value they provide.

So the national brands (Brinks/Broadview, Sloman (sp?), Altronics, etc.) aren't that great?

I'll check out the brands suggested. I just figured there'd be a bunch of support for one of the larger nationwide brands. But if they just aren't as good, fine by me. I want the best I can find!

    Thanks!

I was with ADT for a long time before switching to Smith-Thompson. The only thing I was paying all the extra money for (as far as I can tell) to ADT was their marketing department. Also, they REQUIRED a land line (extra 24 bucks a month) at the time to have their service.

I have Brinks, good service, clean install. I don't have a land line so I pay $5/mo extra for a internet module.

That's something I didn't think about...the phone line. Since we both have cell phones, and MagicJack is our back-up, we don't have a house line. We just don't need one.

    Here's what I'd like...although I'm not sure what I need...

    1. Cameras on all sides of the home so I can see what's going on from my tv's without rushing to all the windows.

    2. 2-way intercom at front door.

    3. Interior secured and my GSD able to roam free.

    4. If possible I'd like to be able to respond to and control my system from my cell phone and/or while away.

Again, I didn't consider than not all companies would be able to offer the same hardware/services.

    Thanks!
