looking at a used 9mm handgun. I kindof like the controls on the taurus better. Is quality the same on both? I would go with the beretta if you think is a better built gun.
    thanks

I see a couple of guys shooting Taurus 92s at local IDPA matches. And none shooting Berettas. Does that mean that my guys are cheap? I dunno, but their guns do run.

On a used gun I would want a testfire or a money back guarantee unless it was something I knew very well and was offered at a very good price.

I'd take the PT92 if it cost $200 more than the Beretta. I prefer functionally superior designs (safety/decocker). My PT92 is the singular most reliable pistol I've ever owned. One that I'd never sell.

Funny that I should see this post. Just today I was wondering out of the the 24 or so handguns I own, if I could only keep 5, which ones would I keep.

The Beretta 92FS Brigadier made the top 5.

The Beretta 92FS would be my first choice, but I would not hesitate to buy a Taurus as well (the safety is in a better location).

Nothing bad to say about the taurus. I just prefer the beretta.

    Get Both!

Seriously, I have both and I'd say get whichever one feels best to you. I think they both shoot great, never had any problems with either. It all really depends on the way you like your controls.

    i would get the Taurus.
i dont personally care for Taurus guns in general, but the PT92 is better to me than the 92FS.

safety is configured better and the Taurus 92s RUN ALL DAY.
i have a couple buddies with the Beretta 92s and they jam far too often for me. like a few times per 100 rounds.

plus you can get a PT92 Taurus for about $350 or less. im considering getting one that is for sale locally. but i already have 2 9mm handguns.

I have owned 7 Tauri and the 92 is the only one I regret getting rid of. I estimate that I put 14K rounds through that thing. Unless the price were unbeatable I'd have a hard time buying a Beretta over the Taurus, controls are better and it is the one gun (IMO) that Taurus got absolutely right.

Sorry friend, but I'll stick with all metal and safety where it belongs. You all know you'd blast Taurus if they were the one up on the slide. :wavey:

+ 1 to that! I'd rather my Beretta compact to a Taurus Semi anything, anyday!

Pre-Decocker steel model Taurus 92 is the best gun they ever made. It was made on the exact same machines that made the Beretta but they changed the location of the safety.

I have one and it is without a doubt one of the best shooters I have ever had.

The PT92 can't be clumped in with other Taurus semi-autos. Beretta won the contract to supply the Brazilian police so they built a new factory in Brazil. When the production run was up Beretta sold the factory to Taurus who is now using it to produce the PT92.

So you're getting Beretta design, tooling and manufacturing process for the price of a Taurus.

When I carried the 60 during Desert Storm I also carried a M9, it did its job. I own a Taurus PT 92, it was a steal at 199.99 (used).

But yet a Beretta Mag wontfit into a taurus properly?

Quality is based on people and management, not the machines being used.
