    Hey,

I was checking out the Benelli siite today and came across the MR1, their answer to the AR-15 I guess. It's 5.56 and takes AR mags. It looks like a nice rifle, but I've never seen or handled one. I wonder how popular they are or haw many of them have been sold. It retails for about $1500. That kind of money will buy you a helluva nice AR-15. At least it would when this madness wasn't enveloping the entire firearms industry.
Here it is so you can check it out:

So I'd like to know what you all think about it. Would you like to have one or not? Would you trade your AR for one?

If you don't like it would you opinion change if it were available in .308 in the same size package?

I guess its Benelli's attempt at a black rifle. Other than the magazine itself, it looks more like a pistol round carbine.

    It's more or less a Benelli shotgun......except it's a rifle.

    I've handled two.

They got put back in the rack. There is no speed reloading of them with the stock/mag layout. Faster than loading one by one, but nowhere near as ergonomic as any modern semi (AR, AK, FAL, HK).

I remember amercan riflemans Review i mean say good things about advertisers so we get more money article. They sad pretty much that the shotgun ergonomics make it a perfect home defense carbine and since they got 3 moa with match ammo it was combat accurate. Seemed kind of pathetic.

    Handled one. didnt like it.

Benelli's ARGO system seems to work really well on their M4 shotgun (I prefer a straight inertia system M1, M2), but not sure how it translates over to a rifle platform. At their price point I can (or could) build a really top notch AR. It kinda' looks like an answer to a question I'm not asking........and I love Benelli shotguns.

I have one, and really like it....for what it is.
I already have several Ar's and Ak's, and just wanted a black rifle that was different. I bought the Benelli simply because I like the way it looks and feels. Mine gives better accuracy than American Riflemans tester, it's super smooth shooting, and 100% reliable so far.
The misses would be, piss poor control layout (I think Kalashnikov May have designed the layout ;-) and a mediocre set of sights that you can't flip out of the way for an optic.
I wouldn't suggest one as your only black rifle, but it is a very cool looking, good shooting rifle that stands out from the pack.
    Overpriced though...

Isn't it basically a more expensive version of the Beretta CX4 carbine?

    Lots of similarities.

After going over one and field stripping it this assessment is perfect.
