So i have worked out a deal with the wife, i can buy as many guns as i want to, i just have to do extra work. so i get to put in 50 or 65 dollars here and there to the gun fund. I am up to about 150 right now with 350 left before i can buy the RIA 1911 dual tone i want. its driving me nuts waiting, but i guess itll make me love it more lol? just wanted to share.

If you are suggesting it would be better to go into debt to buy your toy, I think your wife is on target. You take care of the bills and necessities first and foremost. Stay out of debt, as much as possible. This is coming from someone who learned the hard way.

not at all, just the money i make at my two jobs goes into the bank account. i dont have credit cards, bc in my eyes if i cant buy it now i dont need it that much. basically this is a product of having the money to buy it full out now, but waiting and not touching the money in the bank for things that arent technically "needed".

A good idea would be to set up a savings account at the bank and have $25 - $50 every pay check automatically go to the account so you don't even notice it missing (or your wife) and before you know it, you'll have the money.

I like to do this for a Christmas fund as well...

What is it with women and common sense, and or problems as they relate to problem solving?!?

I've long studied oil and water (in my spare time mind you ), and they go together a whole lot better than women and common sense or problems as they relate to problem solving. Now when it comes to things like emotional intimacy, a woman is perfectly in her element and we men have to let go of the controls so she can fly solo, BUT c'mon, it's a RIA, dual tone 1911! Hello!?! Oh the humanity...

Anyway, I digress. So let's say for instance a man has a genuine catastrophe occurring, such as the OP mentioned and currently has on this thread. He of course is simply going to solve the problem by purchasing said 1911. But nooooooooooooooo, his wimman goes and makes up all these "rules" to solve this tragic, chronic, grave and staid problem. Problem solving just doesn't work like this!

Problem solving simply quantifies the problem, qualifies a solution, and then applies that solution to the problem. The end result is "problem solved," but you never do this make up the rules as you go along thing. Doing so just perpetuates a tendency for the said problem to elongate it's disruption of the man's life instead of bringing about an expedient conclusion to the matter.

My favorite trick I learned. Take a empty gun case to the gunshow telling her you are gonna sell a rifle. Buy a rifle and some pistols. Carry it back in the gun case... "Those guys are crazy maybe I'll sell it to someone else." -- If you can keep the horse trading up with your buddies she'll never keep up with what you have don't have..

Or just grow a friggin pair and do what you want with your money. If it's not your money, that's another problem.

Just keep replacing your gun safe with a slightly larger model. She'll keep seeing the same number of empty slots and leave you alone.

Ignore everything I said and go with post #9's advice. You see, simple solutions are the best solutions. :wavey:

EDIT: Except for that part about emotional intimacy... that's good advice 90% of the time.

Hmm. Here, I have my money, she has her money and then we have a joint account we both contribute the same amount to.

I would tell her to stuff it if she tried to dictate what I did with my money.

to each his own, and if it works for you i understand my sister and her x husband had the same type of set up, but to me its all about trust, and if i trust her with my heart i gotta trust her with my money. plus in california it doesnt matter what the account is, if you get divorced it is all split, so whats to hide?
